Someone mentioned that Catalina Direct sold the Teflon tape that is
installed under the companionway hatch. I searched the Catalina Direct site
with no luck. Anyone know the name of the guy in Florida and the phone # to
talk about getting the tape?

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

Don't know about Catalina selling the tape but McMaster Carr does. Works
fine with plenty to spare.

I'll look for you also. I've seen your boat and admired the companionway
doors. Did you make them?

No, I didn't make the doors. They came with the boat. Here is one selection.

A lot better than having to refinish every year or so. Mine are teak, these
are probably star board. You'd be welcome to take a close look so that you
can make them yourself. Bought they are expensive. I do like the doors, they
are handy. I also have the boards for winter and sometimes when visiting other
ports.

You can usually buy the tape at a local store that sells woodworking
materials. I believe they use as drawer slides.

This Spring I pulled the sea hood. There are molded-in elevations in the
deck under the sea hood on which the companionway cover slides when opened.
I took the opportunity to install new glide tape on the under side of the
cover so the glide tape is engaged the whole length of the slide. What a
difference. The cover slides like silk over a baby's butt.

Removing the sea hood is no biggie. Just remove all the screws and pull it
back into the cockpit under the traveler. Some people have sealed the joint
between the hood and the deck with silicon. I think that's a personal
choice. I did not. I did, however squirt an ample amount of silicon into
the screw holes. There is a space between the hood and the deck. You need
to be sure the silicon will fill-out around the screw as it passes from hood
into the deck.

Hi Joe:
The part number on the list site is incorrect. The correct part number at
McMaster-Carr is: 76445A762. Cost with shipping about $11.00 for a 5 yard
roll.

Note on Teflon tape issue....we found that placing a couple of coats of wax
each season where the Teflon tape was once located provides ample
lubrication and avoids the problem of removing the sliding hatch to install
the tape.
