I need to replace the main halyard - my Catalina documentation calls for 3/8" Low Stretch 115'.

Catalina direct sells a better than new replacement for a whopping $375.  It's 7/16ths.

Any recommendations on what to use?  Tricks to do it?  Thanks!

Check out West Marine or Defender.? They periodically have a sale on New England and other brands of rope.? You should be able to find a bargain on one of the low stretch line which is suited for main halyard use.

I just ordered new New England VPC for halyards from West.  $1.79 a foot,
and the best price I have seen for low stretch line

Shop around for price of new line - Defender, Fisheries, 15% sale West Marine maybe.

My owners' manual lists main halyard as 3/8" low stretch, 115'.    Considering the mast is 42'...

On my boat the main halyard measures 1/2" diameter.

I will be looking at New England ropes Sta-set 1/2" double braid polyester at time to replace.

Use thread to sew end of old halyard to end of new halyard and wrap both old & new with Marlow's Riggers Tape cover.
Pull old & new halyard thru turning blocks on the mast.

I used rope.com on one of their discount deals. First time orders get 10% off, and free shipping.
New England Ropes St-Set Fleck Color 7/16 is going for $1.86 a foot. I spliced my own, but they will splice for $45.  Just remember to add rope length if you are splicing your own. Splicing uses up more length than you would think.
