I just went through the exercise of replacing the galley sink drains on
WindSwept. This is not my first go around on this job and in the past, it
has always been a royal PITA. However, I learned from those experiences and
now have what I think is a easy fool proof procedure that doesn't even
require tools. I wanted to post it on the website but need someone to tell
me how to do that. In the meantime, my write up appears below.

Sink Drain Assembly Notes
Catalina Direct P/N Z1927
1. Remove leaking drain fitting,
2. Unscrew new chrome drain from large black nut. Install drain with
foam gasket between sink and drain fitting flange. I.e., the foam gasket
goes on the inside of the sink. Screw on the white nut to the fitting below
the sink. Center the drain fitting and tighten the white nut as much as
possible by hand. No need to use tools.
3. Separate the white L shaped fitting from the black nut by holding
the black nut and unscrewing the white L shaped fitting. The black nut is
sandwiched between two white fittings and if both white fittings come apart
and off the black nut this is ok. Note there is a thin gasket between the
inside of the black nut and the straight white fitting. Leave in place.
4. Apply a thin layer of plumber's putty to the tapered section of the
white L fitting where it will butt up against the bottom of the black nut.
5. Screw the white L fitting back onto the straight white fitting that
is extending from the bottom of the black nut. Tighten holding the straight
white fitting using your finger or tool that will engage nubs on the inside
of the straight white fitting. You should see a little plumber's putty
pushed out from the joint you made on the between the black nut and white L
shaped fitting.
6. Apply a small bead of plumber's putty in the corner where the white
straight fitting meets the inside threads of the black nut. Smooth the
putty into this corner. Fill the threads of the black nut with putty. You
don't need much. The top of the threads should show through the putty.
7. Screw the blank nut onto the bottom of the chrome drain fitting.
Tighten by hand. When it gets tight continue to rotate the finished assembly
counterclockwise until the L fitting points where needed to line up with the
drain hose. Again, no tools are needed.
8. When mating the fitting to the hose it may help to use soap or heat
and start to put the fitting into the hose as you finish rotating the
fitting.
9. Don't forget the hose clamps!
