The microwave above the stove seems to be held in only by screws from the
bottom. Yes? If so seems like something someone as inept as I can do.

How have y’all set up “replacement storage” there? It would need a
“bar” of some sort across to prevent from spilling.

The microwave in our 1995 Tortuga went out a few years ago. I looked at getting another marine microwave, but they were extremely expensive. I went to a target and was able to get a microwave that would fit for $65. The two-year extended warranty was $10. The marine replacement was nearly 5 times that. I figured if it lasted in two years or more it would be well worth the chance. Still using it and it works fine after about four or five seasons.

One thing to remember on your microwave is that the air circulates along the left side of the unit. Be sure not to push it up against the left side as it restricts airflow and can make the unit heat up. I think that’s what caused mine to go out

There has been much discussion in the past about finding a unit that would fit. Can you tell us the model number that you found?

We just recently purchased a Microwave on Amazon Canada "Galanz

We did same thing. Pounded out the small feet on bottom to get it to
fit.

I guess I wasnt very clear. I want to remove the microwave completely and
ise the space for storage. Is it only held in by screws from the nbottom?
For those who have completely removed the microwave, how did you set up
tge space?

I did remove mine.  It was just screws (i think 4) up from underneath into the feet. I intended to replace it with a newer one but couldn't get the new one to fit. So, I just reinstalled the original microwave (still worked).  You will need to snake the power cord out from behind it.

Yep, two screws took mine out. You want to fabricate a "Lee Cloth" to fold down to hold stuff in while underway.
Since I only used the mwave for a bread box I now use that space for a bigger bread box. 😉

I did that since we only used the microwave for storing oven mitts, etc. My recollection is that it was easy to remove by removing the screws from below the cabinet. I then purchased a section of teak "bar" at WM, cut it to length, cleaned up the ends so it would look good, and screwed it to the frame. The key decision was how high to mount the bar. I made sure to leave enough clearance so we could get our coffee pot in and out!

I removed my microwave this spring when it failed. It was held in place with four screws from the bottom. Super easy to remove. You are correct, I'm far happier with the space than I ever was with the microwave.
