going to ask one more question of this crowd that is far more experienced
than me with this boat -

I had the yard winterize the water system last year. When I now fill the
tank and turn on the faucet- I get a dribble of antifreeze(presumably what
is in the pipes) but then just air. I understand there is some air in the
system and what I read online it looks like maybe up to 5 minutes but I've
gone beyond that with no water from the faucet. Thinking there's a valve
somewhere near the rear tank that needs opening but I cannot find anything.

Did you check the strainer on your pump? That seems the most likely
culprit.

Agree with Dan. The strainer in the pump will “slime over” with antifreeze.
Unscrew it and flush with water. This assumes, of course, that you have
opened the valve to the tank (rear or forward). My tank shutoff valves are
below the kitchen faucet.

Lou, this may be super simple but have you opened the valves on the
lines from the tanks to the water pump? On my 320 they’re in the aft
cabin, port side underneath the bed, just before the pump itself. (One
section further to port than the section with the raw water seacock to
the engine.)

If those valves are still closed (one for each tank on my boat) then
there’s no water running to the pump and it will keep trying and trying
but won’t get anything.

thanks all, will check. I didn't see valves in that port well where the
pump is. But will look again and check the filter.

If you have a hot water tank, the water runs from the storage tank thru that before it makes it to the galley sink faucet. An 8 gallon water tank can take some time to fill. But it should do so in about 5-10 minutes. Check that all connection are tight. I installed a bypass system kit on my 2000 C320 so I don’t need to fill the hot water tank with antifreeze (pink stuff) in the winter. This way, the water runs immediately in spring commissioning.

Another simple thing. My faucet was working fine and then not. My friend suggest remove the aerator on the exit of the faucet. Bingo, water started flowing. I tried cleaning the aerator. Did not seem to help, so I bought a new one. All good.

Greetings!
Purchased our C320 in 2018 and there was no stern seat. I cobbled one together out of plywood and 2x2s with a foam pad- though functional for occasional use, it's too bulky and funky-looking to leasve on the boat. I'd like to purchase or make a nicer seat. Anyone have one for sale? Or a source for replacement? Or plans for a DIY?Thanks,

I have one for my 1997 #406 that I don't use. For me it wasn't
comfortable with my long legs so I keep it at home to go with the boat
if/when I sell her.

That said, I would like to have a more narrow "seat" that I can lean
against or at least lower myself enough to take some weight off my feet and
can be easily and quickly removed, hang, and folded when I need to do so.
So, if any of you out there have any ideas, solutions, etc please let me
know.

Thank you Dave. To clarify, we have stern perch seats. Searching for the helm seat.

thanks all. still working on this one it's not just the galley faucet.
Took a look at the pump and pex pipes in port aft area,
I do not see any valves to open. I can't seem to find any valves in
the system anywhere. will cleaning out the filter.

Hi Louis,

My tank switch is inside the little door behind the galley cabinets. I
need to get down on my knees behind the sink to switch tanks.

I can’t imagine why anyone would remove the valves. Mine are under the
galley sink, right by the pump. I would keep looking.

Bill-

The stern seat that came with the boat is a really simple deal. it is
essentially a continuation of the aft cockpit coaming and the aft lazerette
cover dimension that has some hardware on the bottom that keeps the seat in
place via two rubber straps like the ones that hold the engine covers in
place. You probably still have these on the boat.

Depending on how DIY you want to go, it is probably a very straight forward
activity to make a plug for the seat based on the exact dimension required
(these could be simply templated right off the boat. Building the plug is
probably easiest using a hard foam (like the green insulation stuff) and
then covering a single layout of fiberglass with epoxy resin. You can't
use polyester resin..it will dissolve the foam. Once ready. Spray it
with multiple coats of PVA release and then you can follow that with
gelcoat, followed by laying up fiberglass. Let cure and then pry the seat
loose from the mold and voila...new seat.

For Gelcoat, Spectrum Color has gelcoat that is matched to the year of your
boat.

This might sound crazy if you've never worked with fiberglass. But it is in
fact a very forgiving (yet itchy) material to work with. A couple of
YouTube videos and a small practice piece and you could probably knock the
entire project out in 3 days (mostly due to cure times etc.) Wear a
respirator rated for vapors when working with fiberglass and the resins.

The three most common places for the tank valves are 1)co-located with the
pump under the aft cabin mattress port side 2) co-located with the pump
under the galley, sometimes accessed through the front door where the sink
drain thru hull is, and sometimes...3)there's a door under the nav table
that gets in behind the drawers (which is actually a great location)

Greetings,
I experienced the same issue with the factory provided stern/helm seat, not enough room for my legs with the seat installed. So, recently, I reduced the depth of the seat by 3 1/2 inches. I used epoxy glue and gelcoat kit. To match the new size I also modified the helm cushion, reduced its depth by the same distance and increased its height by additional 6 inches. I used Sailrite sewing machine and high density foam. It looks ok, will check it out this weekend on the water. Will keep you posted. Thanks.

Valves on my boat were under the port side of aft cabin berth. They had a chrome finish with a small black lever which was corroded/immovable. Replaced them with brass/larger lever valves.

If your valves aren’t under aft berth or galley sink, maybe check under the port settee in the main cabin?

Louis-

Forgot to mention. It's a really good practice to list your hull# in your
closing. This serves multiple purposes. First (as in your case) it helps
us all know what animal we are really dealing with. Catalina made many
many changes along the way (some of them subtle and only occurring over a
short window of time, usually due to parts shortages and or some other
hiccup at the factory). Over the longer haul there have been many changes
to the design that are significant. When you say "hey my engine does this
crazy thing..." you may get responses from owners who have one of the
Yanmar engines or a Westerbeke or a Perkins. 3 of those are of no use to
you really since those engines are all quite different (even the two
Yanmars).

Secondly, over time, this "forum" has accumulated a wealth of knowledge on
pretty much any topic you can think of. It's helpful when searching out a
solution to be able to identify whether or not a previously answered post
is relevant to your current question. If the Hull in question is
relatively close to yours then you know the answer probably applies and can
start there...

Whew. Found the valves in the port side aft cabin. Just tiny nuts that needed turning. Water initially flowed from galley sink then pestered out despite full tank. Will figure it out.
