Bill-
The stern seat that came with the boat is a really simple deal. it is
essentially a continuation of the aft cockpit coaming and the aft lazerette
cover dimension that has some hardware on the bottom that keeps the seat in
place via two rubber straps like the ones that hold the engine covers in
place. You probably still have these on the boat.
Depending on how DIY you want to go, it is probably a very straight forward
activity to make a plug for the seat based on the exact dimension required
(these could be simply templated right off the boat. Building the plug is
probably easiest using a hard foam (like the green insulation stuff) and
then covering a single layout of fiberglass with epoxy resin. You can't
use polyester resin..it will dissolve the foam. Once ready. Spray it
with multiple coats of PVA release and then you can follow that with
gelcoat, followed by laying up fiberglass. Let cure and then pry the seat
loose from the mold and voila...new seat.
For Gelcoat, Spectrum Color has gelcoat that is matched to the year of your
boat.
This might sound crazy if you've never worked with fiberglass. But it is in
fact a very forgiving (yet itchy) material to work with. A couple of
YouTube videos and a small practice piece and you could probably knock the
entire project out in 3 days (mostly due to cure times etc.) Wear a
respirator rated for vapors when working with fiberglass and the resins.
