Location: New York City, NY (5 Days Onsite)
Duration: 12+ Months
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35 hours/week, 1-hour unpaid lunch)

Position Overview

NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) is seeking a Senior Security Architect to support its cybersecurity and IT security initiatives. This role is responsible for the design, architecture, and implementation of comprehensive security solutions, as well as assessing existing infrastructure, identifying vulnerabilities, and recommending enhancements to protect agency systems and data.

The Senior Security Architect will report directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and will be a key member of the newly formed Information Security team.

Scope of Work & Responsibilities

Strategic & Governance

  • Review and document technical requirements to comply with Citywide Cybersecurity Policies and Standards
  • Collaborate with the CISO and IT teams to develop the agency’s information security strategy and key initiatives
  • Define objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for cybersecurity initiatives
  • Develop budgets, resource requirements, and execution plans for key initiatives
  • Guide organizational change management to ensure adoption of security improvements

Architecture & Engineering

  • Design and implement robust security architectures and frameworks for agency systems and networks
  • Provide guidance to improve security within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Assist with identity governance and access management programs

Operations & Risk Management

  • Lead vulnerability management and patching processes
  • Conduct security assessments and risk analyses to identify vulnerabilities and threats
  • Provide risk prioritization and remediation recommendations
  • Participate in security-related projects supporting agency strategic goals

Awareness & Incident Support

  • Lead user security awareness and training programs
  • Support incident response and ongoing security operations as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 4–6+ years of experience in information security architecture or security engineering
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to create executive-level presentations with clear, impactful messaging
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Cybersecurity preferred)
  • Strong working knowledge of security controls for:
    • On-premises environments
    • Cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Solid understanding of security frameworks and standards, including:
    • CIS Top 20 Controls
    • ISO/IEC 27001
    • NIST 800-53

Preferred Certifications (Plus)

  • CISSP / CISSP-ISSAP
  • CISM or ISACA certifications
  • AWS Security or Solutions Architect
  • Azure Solutions Architect / Security certifications
  • Other cloud security certifications
