The client is looking for a hands-on Kafka Platform Engineer (Kafka Admin) – not a developer or SRE/DevOps - but someone who has actually set up, configured, and managed Kafka/Confluent clusters end to end.
This includes Kafka administration, upgrades, security (authentication & authorization), monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana), and automation using Python or Bash.
The ideal person has worked on Kafka at the platform level, handling cluster scaling, performance tuning, and user access management, not just using Kafka for data pipelines or app development.
Role: Platform Engineer (Kafka)
Location: NYC, NY
Job Type & Duration: 12 Months Contract
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure and maintain Confluent Kafka clusters in a highly available environment.
- Perform Kafka upgrades and patching ensuring minimal downtime and seamless transitions.
- Administer security protocols and access controls to protect the platform.
- Monitor cluster health and performance using our established monitoring stack(Prometheus, Grafana)
- Troubleshoot and resolve cluster-related incidents such as broker outages, replication lag.
- Develop and enhance automation scripts to streamline operational tasks and reduce manual intervention.
- Assist with planning and managing cluster resources to support future growth.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information technology or equivalent professional experience.
- 5+ years of Kafka administration experience, ideally with confluent platform.
- Demonstrated expertise in Kafka upgrades and production troubleshooting.
- Strong background in Linux system administration.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Bash scripting for automation.
- Good understanding of Prometheus and Grafana for monitoring and observability.
- Certification on Confluent Kafka is a plus.
Note: He also mentioned about his past interviews, and he don't want in spending time in rejecting resources and specifically asking to bring someone who really worked on products and having good knowledge of using / setup products etc.
Don't want any SRE/ Operations /Developers purely looking for Platform Engineers who manage configure, Authentication, Authorizations, Admin tasks, Product Expansions dynamically based on Volumes.
He also shortlisted few resources and working on their onboarding but he still looking for more resources in support and manage the platform end to end.
So far, the profiles he screened know about how to use the product like Developer / like SRE, but he is looking for someone who can handle the products Setup, Volume and other Admin / Identity Managements (Authorization/Authentications) etc..
