Location: Fully Remote (Central Time preferred)
Duration: 3+ Months Contract (Could extend)

Rate $55/hr on c2c

Our client is a small IT team supporting a large, complex organization that is behind on its data warehousing and operational use of data. A Microsoft Fabric data platform was recently implemented by an external partner, but progress populating, modeling, and operationalizing the data has been slow.
They are seeking a senior Big Data Engineer to come in short-term and accelerate the platform, focusing on strong data modeling, medallion architecture, and preparing business-ready datasets. This is a highly consultative role for someone who can reason through data design decisions, not just follow templates.

Responsibility
Accelerate population and refinement of an existing Microsoft Fabric data platform
Design and implement medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) with a focus on accurate, usable Gold-layer outputs
Partner with stakeholders to define desired Power BI outputs first, then work backward to prepare the data
Perform thoughtful data modeling, asking the right questions about structure, accuracy, and usability
Ingest and model data primarily from Salesforce, with additional data from LMS platforms
Support some Power BI development and collaborate closely with business users
Help modernize from legacy data warehousing patterns (e.g., SSRS, Excel-heavy reporting)
Operate independently while communicating clearly on progress, decisions, and risks

Required Skills & Experience
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric
Strong understanding of data modeling and medallion architecture
Experience working in Azure-based data environments
Proven ability to move beyond “order-taking” and provide data design reasoning
Experience ingesting and modeling Salesforce data (critical)
Familiarity with legacy data warehousing/reporting (SSRS, Excel, etc.)
Exposure to Power BI and report-driven data design
Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with the business
