Job Summary
We are seeking a highly proficient Senior Python Data Engineer with 7+ years of experience who excels at architecting and building robust data solutions from the ground up. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days a week onsite at the American Express tower in NYC. The role demands an expert with a strong emphasis on Python development (capable of devising ETL pipelines from scratch using OOP principles) and expert-level SQL across multiple dialects (SQL Server, DB2, Oracle). The engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing ETL pipelines and managing data workflows using Airflow within modern data platforms like BigQuery, Databricks, and Delta Lake.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable ETL pipelines from scratch using Python.
- Write efficient, clean, and reusable code, applying expert knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
- Develop, analyze, and optimize complex SQL queries across various dialects (SQL Server, DB2, Oracle).
- Build and manage data workflows using Airflow, including the development and scheduling of DAGs.
- Apply data modeling principles (schemas, entity relationships) to design robust data structures.
- Ingest, cleanse, govern, and report data from modern data warehouses like BigQuery, Databricks, and Delta Lake.
- Collaborate with data stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions.
Mandatory Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer with a focus on ETL, Big Data, and Data Warehousing.
- Must be capable of devising ETL pipelines using Python from scratch.
- Expert-level proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts.
- Expert-level skills in SQL and data modeling (e.g., schemas, entity relationships).
- Hands-on experience with developing and analyzing queries in multiple SQL dialects (e.g., SQL Server, DB2, Oracle).
- Familiarity with Airflow and practical experience developing DAGs.
- Demonstrable experience with modern data platforms such as BigQuery, Databricks, or Delta Lake.
