🧩 Cerner Architect – Duties & Responsibilities

1. Solution Architecture & Design

  • Design end-to-end Cerner (Oracle Health) solutions aligned with hospital/healthcare business needs
  • Define system architecture, integration strategy, and data flow across clinical and non-clinical systems
  • Create technical blueprints, architecture diagrams, and design specifications
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability of Cerner systems

2. Implementation & Deployment

  • Lead Cerner implementation projects (Millennium, PowerChart, Revenue Cycle, etc.)
  • Guide configuration, customization, and deployment of Cerner modules
  • Oversee system build, testing, and go-live activities
  • Provide technical leadership to implementation teams

3. Integration & Interoperability

  • Design and manage integrations with third-party systems:
    • EMR/EHR systems
    • Lab systems (LIS)
    • Radiology (RIS/PACS)
    • Billing/ERP systems
  • Work with standards such as:
    • HL7
    • FHIR
    • DICOM
  • Ensure seamless data exchange and interoperability

4. Governance & Standards

  • Establish architecture standards, best practices, and guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, HITRUST, etc.)
  • Maintain data security, privacy, and access controls
  • Drive governance for system changes and enhancements

5. Performance Optimization & Support

  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot architectural issues
  • Optimize system performance, workflows, and data processing
  • Support incident resolution and root cause analysis for critical issues
  • Plan upgrades, patches, and system improvements

6. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • Clinicians (doctors, nurses)
    • IT teams
    • Business stakeholders
  • Translate clinical and business requirements into technical solutions
  • Communicate architecture decisions to non-technical stakeholders

7. Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Act as the technical lead in Cerner projects
  • Provide effort estimation, risk assessment, and planning support
  • Mentor developers, analysts, and consultants
  • Coordinate with vendors (Cerner/Oracle Health) and implementation partners

8. Data & Analytics Enablement

  • Design data architecture for reporting and analytics
  • Enable data lakes, warehouses, and integration with BI tools

9. Documentation

  • Maintain architecture documents, runbooks, and design artifacts
  • Document configurations, integrations, and workflows
