Job Summary
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is
seeking an experienced Internet/Web Systems Administrator to design,
develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-level web applications, web pages,
and supporting infrastructure. This role requires a strong background in web
technologies, IIS server administration, application integration, and
accessibility compliance.
The ideal candidate will be able to migrate legacy
systems to modern web platforms, ensure site security and performance,
support enterprise accessibility standards, and provide mentorship to junior
staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Design,
build, and implement new web pages, sites, and applications.
- Integrate
websites with back-end applications and databases.
- Migrate
legacy applications to modern web platforms.
- Develop
with multiple web programming languages (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript,
PHP, XML, ASP, etc.).
- Create
and maintain moderately complex websites and participate as a
project lead or member on multiple projects.
- Mentor
and guide junior technical staff.
- Collaborate
with customers to gather requirements and define web development
strategies.
- Document
processes, workflows, and procedures.
- Perform
bug fixes, updates, and ensure accuracy and currency of web pages.
- Diagnose
and troubleshoot issues with existing applications and sites.
- Collaborate
with DBAs to design and maintain Oracle/MySQL databases as they
relate to web apps.
- Administer,
troubleshoot, and support Windows IIS and Apache web servers.
- Monitor,
report, and optimize site traffic and performance.
- Ensure
web application security, data integrity, and accessibility compliance
(ADA/Section 508).
- Utilize
accessibility evaluation tools to validate responsiveness and
inclusivity.
- Research
and evaluate emerging web technologies and programming languages
for future adoption.
- Participate
in project management, SCRUM activities, and cross-functional team
collaboration.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Proficiency
with Internet Information Services (IIS) and Windows Server 2012
or later.
- Knowledge
of Apache Subversion, GIT, and source control practices.
- Experience
with relational databases (Oracle, MySQL).
- Strong
knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, XML, ASP, PHP.
- Understanding
of application development methodologies and Agile (SCRUM).
- Experience
with web accessibility standards (ADA, Section 508).
- Proven
experience with structuring, developing, and implementing enterprise
websites.
- Hands-on
experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining IIS and Apache web
servers.
- Strong
knowledge of graphic and multimedia design integration.
- Project
management and team collaboration experience.
- Ability
to research emerging technologies, apply best practices, and lead
on complex technical solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related IT field
(or equivalent work experience).
- Relevant
certifications in web development, IIS administration, or accessibility
compliance preferred.
- Demonstrated
expertise and proven track record of success in web systems
administration and development.
Deliverables
- Monthly
time reports detailing tasks worked, hours logged, and progress
against objectives.
- Documentation
of processes, procedures, and system updates.
- Evidence
of compliance with accessibility and security standards.
