Text, Word, iWork, EPUB, (offline) HTML, clipboard, and lyrics documents are all presented in some variation of our basic Document Viewer interface. PDF files are presented in their own separate PDF Viewer interface, and web pages are presented in the Web Browser interface.
In documents that support pagination, the slider at the bottom of the screen lets you jump to a specific page in the document - the status bar below that tells you your current page and chapter location.
Finally, Make Defaults makes the current settings the default for all other documents of this type (which have not already had their settings customized), and Reset to Defaults returns the document to the default settings.
Tap on New Folder at the bottom of the screen to create a new folder, or New File to create a new, empty text file (which you can then open and edit in the document reader). Tap on a folder to view a list of files in it, or tap on a (supported) document file to open it in the Document Reader. Tap on a .zip archive to extract its contents to a folder.
There is more than one PDF reader for Ubuntu. I strongly recommend you try other readers before trying very hard to fix the one which doesn't work. Just open the software center, type PDF, and then pick one. "

However, as mentioned, Document Viewer Word Office PDF Reader Xlsx is only a document reader. You cannot edit any of your documents, let alone create one. Moreover, there are other drawbacks that might be a deal-breaker for some users. For one, it takes a long time to load a file, regardless of its size. Also, there are times when it fails to fully load a document. It also comes with ads that pop-up far too often.
At a glance, Document Viewer Word Office PDF Reader Xlsx seemed to be a convenient tool to have if you always work with documents. With it, you can read any file, anytime and anywhere. However, as it is, the app needs improvements. It lacks a lot of functions that similar document viewers have. Worse, the limited features it has performs poorly, rendering the entire program unstable and unreliable. Overall, there are better options out there.
For example if you open a pdf it always defaults to page width as the size. This makes the pdf document massive and so zoomed in its nuts. You can change the zoom to something else but since there are no preferences you can set for the program, if you go and open another pdf it defaults back to this ultra zoomed in experience. It genuinely makes me angry even thinking about it. I hate bad design. I feel like some basic configurable preferences would make the default document viewer about a million times better. I would love to be able to just open a pdf at a reasonable size by default instead of wanting to gnaw my own fist off in frustration at being visually assaulted by a pdf viewer.
I am assuming you are referring to "Atril" .I experience the same results as you upon initial opening a new document. However once I resize the document, It retains my setting (for that document) from that point onward.
Since I've always struggled to open bigger PDFs (multi-page scans of documents) with these, I'm using "Master PDF Editor" for PDF viewing, light editing (like removing pages), and printing all the time.
It hurts to say it... but Foxit Phantom for Windows is an example of a great PDF tool. Foxit Reader for Windows is an example of what is required at minimum for a PDF reader. Basic editing tools. The Linux version of Foxit Reader it is not quite as nice as the Windows version (both are free). It is like Master PDF Reader in that it is missing simple click buttons for basic edits like highlighting, strike out, etc. It's also missing the quick pop up options for copy and highlight upon dragging over text.
I have personally used the Content Editor Web Part (Located under Media and Content) to display various documents within the page (no need to have the page be opened on an entirely different page) maybe this is what you would want?
As you can see there is a src"..." where the ellipses are put the link to your document or image or whatever that you have stored within your SP site. (this might take some playing with the link). This case also is for a pdf and you might need to change that application/pdf - might work with any document type however.
