Dear Fellow Citizens

Sub: Billion Beejams  - Haryali Hindustan Hamara

Allow me to introduce myself as the Managing Trustee of the C+ive Foundation; citizens of India and of Indian origin from around the world who are enablers and change makers that plan to make the difference we wish to see.

The C+ive Foundation seeks your partnership as fellow citizen to join this national fellowship of citizens, corporates and government to afforest the country together in the first such project of its kind anywhere in the world.

When the next Indian astronaut goes into space a decade from now, he should see "Haryali Hindustan Hamara" (My Green India). This occasion would coincide with deadlines for India to reduce carbon emissions by 2020.

The Billion Beejams project is the most visible and cost effective way for India's citizens and corporates, including the petroleum, aviation companies and other large creators of carbon, to achieve carbon neutrality by investing within the country, rather than purchasing carbon reduction credits from elsewhere.

For those organisations already involved in projects of social forestry, watershed development and women's empowerment, the Beejams project would assure a better utilisation of existing financial resources to achieve much more.

This Beejams project derives its inspiration from Japanese natural farmer and environmentalist Masanobu Fukuoka; it is his environmental know-how that spawned the Beejam (seed ball) concept - the cheapest and simplest way to afforest 31 million hectares of denuded land across the country at the rate of a billion beejams a year, with the citizen '[greenvesting' Rs. 5 per square metre.

The C+ive and Alt Tech Foundations are launching a pilot project during Monsoon 2009 on the outskirts of Bangalore embedding a million beejams over 300 sq km, in unit areas of 10 sq km, in which citizens and corporate entities can 'greenvest' at a cost of Rs. 5 per square metre.

At a conservative success rate of 30%, this initiative should yield 30,000 tree germinations per 10 sq km, within six months of embedding with Beejams

If the results are satisfactory, then our partnership should continue into the national campaign commencing June 5, 2010 on World Environment Day.

May I request you to peruse the presentations attached.

I look forward to seeking your support for this initiative as a fellow citizen of India. May I also request you to circulate this message as widely as possible through your individual and social networks.

This is an opportunity for India to set an example for the world to follow and it can only happen with citizen power!

Thanking you in anticipation for your support and partnership.

sincerely
Ranjan Kamath
