Hello and Ho-Ho-Ho to the RVCC!

Congratulations to the Concert Choir for the beautiful singing at Holiday Pops and congratulations to all for the Happy and Fun singing at the Sing-A-Long yesterday!

Here are the Notes and Reminders for this week:

·       Tomorrow is the formal costume check for the A B B+ Choirs.  Please wear your full costume to rehearsal tomorrow.

·       Memory check is tomorrow.  We will check all songs for memorization and I’ll make a note of who needs to work more on memorizing and check again the following week.

·       No A B B+ family choir tomorrow so the A B B+ have time to prepare for the School Tour on Wednesday

·       We have complimentary tickets for Teachers!  Ask your favorite teacher if they would like to attend the concert at 1:30 or 4:00.  Email me with the student name, teacher name, school and preferred concert time and I’ll send teacher tickets with the chorister at the next Monday rehearsal.

·       C Choir Family Choir practice 8:45-9:00 tomorrow for Christmastide.

·       Have you put up the Concert Poster?  We’re counting on YOU!  There is still time, so please make plans to get the poster up!!

·       Could you help us put up more posters?  Hand out more concert postcards?  We have several more materials that you can pick up at the Attendance Desk on Monday.

RVCC Recruiting for new singers!

Could you help us to recruit some new singers for the next semester?  We especially would like to add 2nd graders to the A Choir, and 5th-8th graders to the B+ Choir.  (we’re going to change the style and class set-up for the A Choir next year and so 2nd graders to join the A Choir for the spring semester is the best fit.)  We have a Newcomer class next week, Thursday, December 12, 6:00-7:00 at Faith Alliance Church at 7505 Barrens Road in Roanoke.  (near the airport) There are sign-ups online on the choir website.  https://www.childrenschoir.com/how-to-join

I know that there are more children out there who love to sing and would benefit from our choir program and would love to sing with us!  I could really use your help to find some new singers to grow our numbers a bit.  Right now, the B+ Choir has 29 singers and our optimal size for the most comfortable singing balance is 50.  Our goal is to add 10 new Middle School singers starting in January.

In the A choir we have 10 adorable and wonderful young singers.  We like to have 20 in the A Choir.  Do you know some 2nd graders that you could share our singing information with?

I’ve attached two documents that you can share with friends, acquaintances, youth groups, after school groups and other places with children in grades 2-8.   We have a special recruitment postcard for the B+ Choir for grades 5-8 and we have a donation to offer 10 50% off tuition scholarships for the Spring term.  The concert poster has information about the class on Thursday for all school ages.

With the schools not allowing us to send flyers home with students, and our very, very small advertising budget, our best avenue for sharing the good news about our wonderful choir program is you, our choir families.  Please share our information with as many people and groups that you can think of.  And THANK YOU so much!!

RVCC Concert Day important note:

All singers will stay in the Fellowship Hall between concerts.  Singers will not be allowed to go out to the hallway to meet with family, or have family come into the Fellowship Hall.

For our RVCC Concerts, the students need to stay with their choir in between concerts and will not be released.  We don’t have much time between concerts and for safety and peace of mind, I need to keep them as a group.

With the concerts back to back we don’t have time to check choristers out and check them in.  Also, having family members come into the choir space gets too chaotic and we can’t properly supervise it.

I’ve had a couple instances in past years, in between concerts, where a non-custodial parent took the child, or a relative upset a child, or children came back with flowers and gifts and gloated about it, or many children saw a loved one and those who didn’t felt left out.  Overall, I tried to accommodate everyone’s family situation between concerts and it was so stressful and we couldn’t keep track of the children and it caused many, many more problems than benefits.  So….I’ll keep the kids with me in the Fellowship Hall.

It’s great to plan to meet up with family following the second concert which will be at around 6:00-6:15. A great time for a family celebration dinner!

Wishing you a happy Sunday,

Ms. Davidson
