| Supporting Parenting Students: Recommendations for Colleges Addressing Child Care Barriers New America launched a research project in partnership with 10 community colleges to better understand how schools address parenting students’ child care needs. They found that colleges that support parenting students do so through a mix of full-time on-campus child care, drop-in services, and partnerships with organizations that help families find and afford off-campus care. While colleges can’t fix the broader issues of workforce shortages, supply, quality, and affordability in the child care system, there are strategies to better support the child care needs of parenting students.

| ISAC In-Person Trainings
ISAC's fall in-person professional development schedule is now available. Trainings will be held at multiple locations across Illinois and offer Professional Development and Continuing Education hours. View the schedule and register on ISAC's Upcoming Professional Development Offerings page.

With the anticipated launch of the 2026-27 Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid (Alternative Application) on October 1, 2025, ISAC services are available to support students and families.
The ISACorps™ of near peer mentors are available to assist students and families with their financial aid applications. Students can book a virtual one-on-one meeting with an ISACorps™ staff member using the ISAC Booking page at www.isac.org/booking. You can book a virtual meeting up to 7 days in advance, and there's an option to meet with a Spanish-speaking ISACorps™ member if they prefer.

| Illinois Education and Care under Federal Policy and Budget Changes: Impact Narratives Project
Advance Illinois is working to document and uplift the impact that federal orders and actions have had on Illinois’ learners and on those providing education and care so that others gain greater insight into what is happening and how our system, the people who power it, and the people served by it are being affected but also responding to the changes.

| Children’s Adversity Index
ISBE’s Children's Adversity Index measures community-level adversity in order to estimate exposure to potential sources of childhood trauma. It provides a useful tool for a wide range of state- and regional-level policymakers, nonprofits, state agencies, and other stakeholders to help them make better informed decisions about resource allocation, policies, and programming, and prioritize communities most in need.
