So I have been getting really bored at work. My only project was this
auditing thing which takes about 10 minutes a day now that it's
implemented. So I got to thinking last night.... And so today I
defined a project and presented the idea to my supervisor. I would
develop an interactive website that would pull the audit data from all
30+ Oracle instances into one pretty interface. It would include
reports and a text field for typing custom queries. This would all be
PHP because that seems to me like the best way to connect a web page to
a plethora of databases. So here is the kicker.

I don't know ANY PHP!!!!

So this is my plea for help. I figure this will be a great project,
but I need some good PHP resources. Where can I go to learn the basics
of PHP and database connectivity?

Thanks in advance

Tejay

My favorite resource for PHP help is the online PHP manual
(http://www.php.net/manual/en). There are usually very simple and
straight to the point examples for each function in the language. User
comments are also quite useful most of the time. If you look into the
Oracle functions (http://us3.php.net/manual/en/ref.oracle.php), you'll
find a list of available functions to get you started. Note that those
Oracle functions are deprecated and not bundled in PHP as of 5.1.0.

I've never done anything with Oracle database connectivity with PHP,
but I'm quite comfortable with MySQL databases and PHP. If you get
stuck on anything, feel free to get in touch with me. You can find me
on google talk/gmail chat most of the time. If I'm not online, just
throw an email over to my gmail and I'll get back to you (usually
within a few hours).

Good luck!

Well, if your willing to wait a few months, Bro. McLaughlin is coming
out with a book to do just that!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0072263253/sr=8-2/qid=1149275658/ref=pd_bbs_2/103-6534978-3791053?%5Fencoding=UTF8

I've had the privilage of reading a few chapters and its actually one
of the best programming books that I've read. (I'm graduated so
there's no grade conflict of interest here;)

If you're not willing to wait on that, I have PHP 5 book that I have
yet to dive into, but from what I have read it's pretty good. you can
view it here:

Thanks,

Wayne Hartman
