The UK Online Safety Act 2023 applies throughout the United Kingdom—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. It is already being implemented in phases, with Ofcom enforcing duties requiring social media platforms, search engines, and other online services to reduce illegal content, protect children, and introduce age-assurance measures. Although it is a UK law, it also applies to companies based outside the UK if their services have a significant number of UK users or are directed at the UK market, meaning many global platforms must comply for their UK users.
