Tamohara das, NRR GBC
GBC Report on Two Important GBC Policy Papers (by Tamohara das): The ISKCON Governing Board Commission (GBC) recently met in Mayapur for the Annual Governance Meeting. Among other topics, two important policy papers were presented, discussed, and approved. The resolution of approval included that these papers be distributed widely throughout ISKCON and be made available to all devotees. It is particularly stressed that they be given to new devotees prior to initiation. Here is a short summary of the statements:

GBC Statement on the Position of Srila Prabhupada: A growing need was felt for the GBC to clearly present our understanding of the position of Srila Prabhupada within ISKCON currently and for the future, and the relative positions of those disciples and followers of Srila Prabhupada who take up the service of initiating gurus. We wanted to make clear that Srila Prabhupada is the pre-eminent siksa guru for all time within ISKCON, and that all his followers, grand-disciples, and all future devotees may have a direct connection to him. His books and instructions will be the cornerstone of the Movement throughout the golden age of Kali Yuga. It is also clearly stated that others may not be on a similar level as Srila Prabhupada, although they function as bonafide spiritual masters.

GBC Statement on Harmonizing the Lines of Authority: A problem occasionally arises within ISKCON when devotees may feel conflict between two lines of authority. On one hand, we have the leadership structure of GBC, Temple Presidents, and other authorities; and on the other hand, we also have the spiritual authority of one’s diksa guru. Most often these two work together to support a devotee’s spiritual life, but there are occasionally times when there may be conflicts. This paper attempts to balance these two lines of authority and set parameters to help minimize and mediate any future conflicts. The full text of these two papers may be found by opening the links below:

Festival of Colors
So now we are on the Festival of Colors train, and it was not bad for our first run. I think it is obvious our community is a natural for hosting this great "friend raising" event--lots of space, lots of talent, and lots of helping hands. We had about a hundred devotee volunteers, including our GBC and his whole family, as well as students from the Bhaktivedanta Academy, and everyone worked hard while having a good time. We thank each and every one of you. Whether you greeted cars coming in all day (thanks Rangavali devi dasi and Haripriya devi dasi and all your helpers), directed parking, met guests at the Welcome Table (thanks Sridevi dasi for organizing and staying from the beginning to the very end), served prasadam and cold drinks (thanks to Gaura Hari das and Akincana Krishna das for staffing the pavilion all day long, organizing it all too), helped to cook some of the nicest prasad ever (thanks Shanka das, Dhira Krsna das and all the kitchen staff who cut up, cleaned up and ran back and forth), met guests at the temple room, at the book table, at the ask-a-yogi tent or entertained the children (many thanks to Rupa devi dasi and Sacinandana das and their helpers).....you all made this festival run super-smooth. We were hearing over and over how much the guests liked coming.

Music is a big part of this day. Special thanks must go to Chaturatma das for arranging all of it, from flights to Florida, accomodations, hospitality, and a lot more - like emceeing the whole day from the stage--I'd say he was in his element, and handled it like a pro. Special thanks also to Dhirodatta das, another true professional sound man, who lent us his equipment and expertise, and to Manorama das, who lent Dhirodatta prabhu his equipment and expertise...without these two we would be up a music-less creek. I have to mention (some of) the key behind-the-scenes helpers: in the office, Astasakhi devi dasi and Nandini Kishori devi dasi have been on it for weeks now, Bhakta Clay helped so much with creating the needed infrastructure, Jambudvipa das was a much appreciated go-to person, Bhakta Charles was out daily for weeks handing out invitations, Krishna Kesava das was everywhere, getting up tents and helping everyone else. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. There is alot more we can do and are hoping to do, next year.....same time, same place. Click Here for photos by Jivana Wilhoit.

Upgrading Temple Internet Services
For More Consistent Online Audio Transmission of Our Classes and Events
We are ready to upgrade the Temple internet service and equipment to both insure more consistent online audio transmission of our classes and events, and to hook us up to Mayapur.tv, so that our festivals can go live around the world. We need two things to make this happen:
  • $250 for a Nano station to transmit internet from our office to the Temple. Thank you to Jagat Vira das for donating for the Nano station!
  • Increase our service with our internet carrier which requires that we get a monthly commitment of $200 over what Krishna.com currently collects for this service
Now when we receive the additional monthly commitment totaling $200, we will immediately change over. The good news is that the camera we are currently using is suitable for making these upgrades, as is our software.

Prabhupada Disciple Profiles
Highlighting Prabhupada Disciples in Our Community
Jatayu das
While in high school in 1973, Jatayu das was influenced by some friends to become a vegetarian. They attended a program by devotees at St. Petersburg Junior College where they took prasadam and learned to chant. A few years later in 1976, Jatayu prabhu and his friends stopped off at the Atlanta Temple on their way hitchhiking from Florida to Canada. He remembers the rows of shaved heads sticking out of sleeping bags at the Temple. A group from the Temple drove in a van to Murari Sevak, the Hare Krishna farm community in Tennessee. It was there that Jatayu prabhu was introduced to his life-long passion for farming as he helped to plant new crops. He remembers his thoughts finally becoming clear in the beautiful natural setting, and the realization then came, “I think I’m going to stay here.” Jatayu prabhu moved to Murari Sevak that same year and took initiation at the Atlanta Temple in 1977.

Jatayu prabhu’s main service at Murari Sevak was farming and using oxen for various tasks such as plowing, pulling down trees, and dragging lumber. Back then, farms generally used chemically-produced soil fertilizer, but Jatayu prabhu thought that crops might grow better if the fertilizer was organic. So he created a fertilizer using hay, cow urine and manure. Indeed the crops which were treated with organic fertilizer grew much bigger than the chemically treated ones, and the whole Farm switched over. He also engaged in Deity worship at Murari. Five years later in 1982, Jatayu prabhu transferred to the Miami Temple. There he would go on harinama daily and distribute Back to Godhead magazines. MORE

As a Monthly Tither
Tithing
New Raman Reti is a unique ISKCON community in many ways. We are the largest Hare Krishna temple in North America with members from all over the globe. Our excellent and loving standard of Deity worship ties everyone together, not to mention festivals and Ratha-yatras galore, quality gurukula education opportunities from pre-K through 10th grade, cow protection, organic farming, and more plans to do more spreading of Krishna consciousness that any of you can drop into any day you're ready.

Another way we are unique is that we are primarily supported by our own, mostly western, devotees. As you may know, many temples around the U.S. these days are supported primarily by sincere congregations of Indian families. Although our outreach preaching is continually increasing, we still depend on the support for our monthly expenses from our devotee families. That means YOU! Please become a committed tither, make a pledge for any amount and partner with Krishna to make sure all the needs of His temple are covered every month. "The mood of everyone contributing for the ultimate success is the mood of bhakti, and ultimately bhakti is cooperation with Krishna." (from Srimad Bhagavatam class March 12, 2013, Laxmimoni devi dasi speaking)
