Patrick likes Jordan Peterson. And I kinda like him too, but I recognize it as an emotional reaction, rather than agreeing rationally with him. In fact, I find it hard to find any statements in his material that are epistemic enough to agree or disagree with.
Patrick sent me this vid, which is over 2.5 hours long, so I'm not asking anyone to sit thru it, unless you just happen to like JP.
This will be a different kind of discussion (if a discussion happens at all).
I'll offer a few suggestions. Any of you are welcome to do the same.
Maybe someone wants to talk about Nietzsche saying we create our own values.
------------------------------------------
His view of scripture (Bible at least) appears to be only slightly higher than mine. Yet he has a record for talking X-Ctns back into Cty - whereas I've never been able to talk anyone into Non-scriptural monotheism.
----------------------------
Here's a part I agree with:
45:30 Everybody acts out a myth. But few people know what their myth is. And you should know what your myth is, because it might be a tragedy.
Ctns act out their particular version of the Ctn myth (or at least the "I'm a Ctn" myth).
Atheists used to act out the "There is no God" myth. Now they usually act out an agnostic humanist myth, or a "Nobody tells me what to think" myth.
Like the atheists, I'm reluctant to admit I act out any kind of myth at all, because I think I'm above all that shit. But I may just have a more arrogant myth.
--------------------------------
He has some stuff on dreams that may be discussion worthy. I turned Ctn primarily because of dreams. When I studied the Bible, I noticed how often God used people who paid attention to dreams, so I started assuming SOME dreams were divine communication. Still do.
--------------------------------
I'd prefer not to discuss the man himself, because, so what if he has said some dumb things. But if any of you want to, I'll participate. One guy in the comments said:
"Why did Jordan Peterson cross the road?
God only knows why... it’s no joke man."
Another said:
"If Socrates were to ever watch this lecture, he would say, "Now I am surer than ever that I know nothing!""

The more I see of JP, the more I agree with him. Does anyone know of an example of him saying something obviously wrong EVEN WHEN SEEN IN CONTEXT?
