For everyone who hasn’t heard, the Missouri Department of
Transportation (MODOT) will be holding a Public Meeting on October 12,
6:00 p.m., at High Ridge Fire Station regarding MODOT’s plan to put
directional median openings with downstream U-Turn lanes as a safety
improvement on Hwy 30 at Upper Byrnes Mill road.

The initial plan is to install U-Turn lanes on Hwy 30 east and west of
Upper Byrnes Mill road. Traffic from Upper Byrnes Mill will no longer
be allowed to cross Hwy 30. If you want to go to High Ridge, you will
need to make a right turn and head towards House Springs, cross over
to the center lane and into a new U-Turn lane to merge into eastbound
traffic.

The same is true if you are coming from City Hall and would like to go
to House Springs. You will need to make a right turn and head toward
High Ridge, cross over to the center lane and into a new U-Turn lane
to merge into westbound traffic.

MODOT’s intention is to reduce accidents and make the intersection
safer. There are advantages and disadvantages to this type of
intersection design. The Mayor and several Byrnes Mill aldermen will
be attending and would like anyone with an opinion either way, to be
there Wednesday evening at the High Ridge Fire Station. We want to
make sure you are aware of this opportunity to get a better
understanding about the plan and be able to voice your concerns or
opinions.

Jim,

Thanks for the invitation.
I will be unable to attend, but would like to add my
"two bits" (again) about the name, "Byrnes Mill Road."

My recollection (and documented history) reminds me
there should be NO LOWER BYRNES MILL ROAD.

Byrnes Mill Road runs from Highway PP to, and through
Highway 30, terminating in the area known as "House
Springs" at "Gravois Road." (See red line on map later.)

I hope signs erected as a result of MODOT's U-turn lane do
not further complicate the situation, and that the county
conforms with earlier agreements with our city.
