I would like to thank the two dozen, or so, men, women and teenagers
who volunteered their time and tools to reclaim the Byrnes Mill
structure from Mother Nature. Everyone worked hard and made this
phase of the project a tremendous success. An appetizing lunch was
supplied by Mary and Jim Mantone which provided the energy for a
handful of workers to continue working until 2:30, when they outlasted
the chipper. Also, hat’s off to our local photographer, Doug Smith,
for documenting the event. It was great to see everyone working
together for a good cause.
Due to the mechanical failure of the chipper, the City’s Public Works
Department will complete the clean up as time allows.
As you pass by, you can now see the Mill foundation from the road. I
would recommend stopping in at the Park and walking to the Mill get a
good look at the Mill structure and a view of our river frontage.
Thanks again to all who participated. It couldn’t have been done
without you!
