Hey Bucket Listers,
Unfortunately the Beinecke cannot handle a large group with a last minute request BUT that does not mean this trip should be neglected. While we will not be able to look at items in a seminar room, we can still go to the Beinecke in smaller groups to look at sweet old swag. SOOOOO:

I'll be headed to the Beinecke around 12 and have requested:
-Walt Whitman's Eyeglasses
-Vinland Map
-Manuscript for de Tocqueville's Democracy in America

Per the email below, only the person who requested the items can touch them -- we should be able to fill out additional requests tomorrow once items are out of storage so that we can share. Not ideal, but it should work. Sounds like 10-12ish people want to go and some have requested an afternoon session.

Join me at 12:00 if you want. Sounds like 2:00 would be another good time for a group to meet up. If earlier or later works for you, then do that. Just get your butt to the Beinecke.

Best,
Jacque Sahlberg

Dear Jacque,

I’m sorry that we won’t be able to book a seminar room, as there is no professional staff available tomorrow morning to attend the session. I’ve spoken with Moira Fitzgerald, the assistant head of access services, and she thinks the best approach for your interests will be to break into small groups and look at the items quietly in the reading room. Everyone in the group must register as a reader in order to enter the reading room : http://www.library.yale.edu/beinecke/brblinfo/brblvisi.html

We also ask that only the person requesting the item actually handle the item. We’d rather not have more than one pair of hands on a book or manuscript at any one time.  Does that make sense? Also, you might want to put in your requests in Aeon as soon as you’ve made your decisions, in the event that any items are stored in the safe, which requires extra time and staff for paging.

Let me know if I can be of further help.

Hope to meet you tomorrow,

Elizabeth
