My apologies for the spam today.  Despite best efforts some spammers manage to sneak in.

This group was established to investigate the truth behind claims in a book about the BWB strategy, and during the past years we have accomplished that purpose.   The group further explored collars and other advanced option strategies.   I hope the members are satisfied with these accomplishments.

If the members so desire, now we need to take the group in new directions.  Most of our 700 members are intermediate to advanced option traders, so there are many possibilities about what to investigate and discuss.   Please feel free to post your ideas to the group or email me privately.  If some members are interested in having an administrative function, we also need another moderator or two.

Hi Neal and Jeorg,

I have the same question about how the other members conclude the usage of BWB in their real world trading.
As a matter of fact, I questioned the concept of "free butterfly combo" which was mentioned quite frequently in the BWB discussion.

I posted my doubt of "free butterfly combo" on 12/1/2010.

Eski

There is nothing inherently magical about about the BrokenWingButterfly.

It is simply a combination of a butterfly and a vertical spread; where typically the trader is trying to finance the purchase of the Butterfly with the sale of the vertical spread.

Consequently there is an unlimited number of variations of the BWB; that can usually be dissected into a relatively simple component parts.

Michael Catalico and Charles Cottle have provided numerous examples of using BWB's in both this and other forums either as Opening Trades or as Adjustments.

If it is good enough for those guys, then it gets my attention, and I frequently use BWB's as an Adjustment; primarily to roll my short units in the direction of the market direction and the finance the roll by selling some premium.

Cheers
James

Neal,
Just wonder if anyone of you has watch Greg Jensen from Options Animal Webcast on CBOE web on April 19, 2011  subject-" Adjusting the Collar Trade". Currently i follow closely on JL Lord strategy and has been making money for the past 2 years on collar. Just to check or ask for comment on Greg strategy using different months for PUT and Call on Collar.

James

Anh,
All my stock has been carry away. Read all the trading articles from RWT which is given free when you buy the book. I trade with 1,000 shares and I do not encourage to use protfolio margin. Trade within your mean. Since I have no stock now, I sell Put for the month which is far OTM say about 20% probability of expiring and buy very cheap Put say 0.5 cts or less to reduce margin. I shall take the stock if assigned. I look for stock with trading volume 5 to 10 million a day.
I was over committed last march month and have to rollover to april month, since no sufficient fund to pick up stocks.

James,

I am interested in the collar strategy as I have read Lord's book but have not tried it.  What stocks have you been using over the last 2 years for the collar?  Also, did you start out with 1,000 shares per position and did you use portfolio margin?  Many thanks.

Anh
