Dear BWA Members,

I would like for us to arrange and organize Mithi Shitabi on 20 mi Jamadil Akhar which is Ma Fatema tu Zahra AS wiladat din { 20 April 2014}  in which we will also include an Ilmi program.

Since we will mainly be organizing it,I will appreciate your suggestions in 

• Organizing which includes whether we should be distributing cards? If yes then will  we keep the entrance gift on the card numbers? 

• Per thaal rakam?
  
• Cooking etc 
• Shitabi Hadiya.
• Gifts for the winners in Ilmi program which will be on a game format.

Respected Members ,please respond with ur suggestions.I hope this date will work for all of us.I am alo planning to send out an email at Sandiego muminaaat group as soon as we decide about rakam per thaal and Hadiya.

That's a nice suggestion Zahra, but I guess it'l become a bit repetitive,  since we have given this hadiya last year for the same occasion.

We could give alcohol free fragrances  (similar to an attar) from bath and body works or body shop, or some kindda kitchen items, or even better,rida materials from Joann (that might turn out to be an expensive affair though).

We could come up with some other kinds of better suggestions too.

I don't think I understand how the shitabi will work out.  If we are asking ladies to buy thaals, then given the size of our jamaat, only 4 people will be able to buy thaals.  Is that the idea?  Do we open it to neighboring OC and LA jamaats? How much participation are we expecting?

Also, I was under the impression that the jaman on the shahadat day was with the intention of a shitabi thaal.

We have 73 muminaat  on our list which includes dikriyo too.Around 53 ladies according to my calculations  are those who attend {on and off} muminaat majalis and other activities.

If we take roughly 45 muminaat including our members we are looking at 5 thaals and yes we are open to OC and LA jamaat too.

the lucky draw on the card numbers is a good idea. we can hand them out on arrival.

i think even 2-3 people can get together for rakam for the thaal. i think we should cater some food so we can concentrate on the rest of the preparations.

One question, are we extending invitation to buy thaal or just invite people from there to attend? If to buy thaal, then is it worth for a LA or OC family to buy thaal here and travel the distance when they already have programs like this in their own sphere? 

I think overall it's a good idea. Do we have caterer other than Tasneem Behan so we could order something new that we've not already tasted if we chose catering as an option?

Thoughts:

 

Thaal raqam should be $52 in my opinion.

 

I think it would be great to have cards, but when would we be able to distribute them in a timely manner since April 20th is coming close?

-If we do:  Lucky  number draw on the back of the card

-If we don’t: raffle tickets at the entrance and then pick a number, send thaal hosters evites that they can forward to their invitees.

-Gift for winner:  Bath & Body Works hand soap/body wash depending on our budget for the gift.

 

Shitaabi hadiya:

-something that could be useful during Rajab or Ramzaan?  khake shifa dabbis?  masalla fabric?

-if we order something in bulk, we’d have to order within the week as to allow enough time for delivery.  ( I don’t mind ordering these if we have a better idea as to what we’d like to give/budget, etc )

-websites:  myweddingfavors.com, orientaltrading.com, and maybe amazon?  You can find small decorated containers, candy pouches, etc. at these websites.  Very reliable-have used each of these myself.

 

Menu:  I like how we are organized when it comes to jamans, group A, group B, etc.

-Side 2 (chana bateta?)

-Kharaas 1 (drumsticks?)

-Kharaas 2 (puff pastry?)

-Fruits/Dry Fruits ( 😊 )

-Paan, Kajal, Attar, Mehendi (For mehendi cones, we can just buy a few and split them in to smaller cones) 

-Attar for everyone when leaving

 

Decorations:  If we are doing any, we could get nicer paper products just to add a little color 😊  Sometimes Party City has really great discounts on selective colors.  We could just pick that color in order to keep costs at a minimum.

Last night, we had a meeting at the markaz presided by Zainab ben and attended by Umema, Alefiya C, Tasneem and myself. This is what we discussed and decided:

- We were going back and forth between $52 and $72 for thaal raqam. We decided to keep it at $72 per thaal.

- For hadiyas, we are thinking of giving a list of tasabeehs to do on different occasions (eg: beemari, rozi, matha ma dard etc). We will print these on nice paper and may be laminate it. Along with this we will give a 100 dana tasbeeh. We are trying to get the tasbeehs from India and get them utaaraved from the qabar mubarak of syedna Taher Saifuddin RA maula and Burhanuddin maula RA. Does anybody know of anyone coming from India to San Diego? Otherwise my sasu can bring it.

- Hadiyas will comes out to be $4 - $5 /person. For a thaal of 9 people, that is ~$45. That was one reason we kept the raqam at $72 instead of $52 for each thaal. In case we go over budget, members will have to contribute.

- Jaman:

Umema has offered to make kaleji gurda (to go with the roti) and Alefiya C has offered to make mithaas. We were thinking may be daal chawal palidu for main jaman. These things are not finalised yet so please let the group know if you can help in making any food item.

I think we should keep it at roti, one mithaas, one kharaas, side dish to go with roti, main rice dish with soup, salad (chana bateta), fruit, paan and drinks.

- We will send the invitation to the jamaat either tonight or tomorrow morning. So please let the group know your suggestions.

- There will be a quiz (may be jeopardy) and we will ask who wants to participate. Topic and study material will be provided.

Thank you Fatemiben for the notes. I am wondering why not call for the Tasbeeh  Kitaab from India too. I cannot imagine saving a whole lot by making it ourselves. I am suggesting it only because you have decided to call for tasbees anyways.  This is just a suggestion.

It looks very elegant but should be simple to make. Do you think we can make it?

LA downtown will be cost effective ~$2, but if we are just going there for the beads, it might not make sense.  I have some beads at home that I can count tonight and let you all know if they are enough.  Getting from south sun beads should run about $3-$4 per tasbi (depending on the quality of the bead).  We will also need to budget the gift bag into the cost.

The other tasbi option is 7 dana tasbi.  If we have enough beads, we could do a 7 dana and 5 dana (half of 10) set. 

How many are we expecting? 45 people?

Hussaina's relative is coming to San Diego very soon and she has agreed to bring odnaas for us to give as hadiyas from Indore.

My sasu has also bought the tasbeehs and is planning to get the tasbeeh sipari too. So we have hadiyas for a future event also.

Main issue right now: SELL the thaals?

Any suggestions? One sold so far.

Nobody really asked me, but most people might not even think of this option if t is not pointed out.  How about pointing out that one can also take a thaal for the dikrio (somebody might not think of that as well)?

This is the first time we are doing this and if it is not a success, then the following years will only get more difficult.

There are some invitees who would be there a little late. Have we decided on how much time are we going to spend on each activity and at what time we would be serving thaal, so the invitees who are coming late, can plan accordingly. It'd  be great if we could send the schedule on jamaat email.
