Thanks, Mzondi.
This is good stuff. The man Prof Mhango was an accomplished person.
Unfortunately knowledge management is one of the critical issues in
the country especially within our education system.
It could be good to have for example annual academic/social research
or paper/book fair where some of these publications could be
unveiled...I dont know whether the University centre for Research is
functioning in this line...i dont know whether the Book Publishers
Association of Malawi is still functioning in this line....In
addition, the Ministry of Education, could also make use of the Annual
Joint Sector Reviews to have a publications corner-where new academic
studies could be on display.....this could be done alongside the
national research council.....and how about having a regularly updated
web portal under UNIMA or MOE website for example where all these
publications can be accessed? I know also that a lot of local and
international NGOs and NGO Networks are conducting very important
reaserch in almost all sectors (For instance, MEJN, CISANET, MHEN,
CSEC, LEG, CRECCOM, AAI, OXFAM, etc)...how can these be coordinated
for dissemination, critical analsyis, reflection etc????
By the way, do we have an up to date National Research Policy?.....
These are just some of my immediate thoughts. But I want to agree that
there are a lot of publications that are not disseminated or indeed
very distinguished papers (in almost all sectors: education, health,
agriculture, literature,. engineering, economics etc)...that are not
published or have not received critical attention, reflection, and
follow up....perhaps this is an issue that policy makers, with help of
universities, reserach institutes etc can take up.
Regards,
Limbani
