Since 2011, he has been teaching at IIT Gandhinagar; he also helped establish its Archaeological Sciences Centre. He was a member of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) (2016-19) and is currently a member of the National Syllabus and Teaching / Learning Material Committee, which oversees the preparation of new school textbooks. In 2017, he was awarded Padma Shri for his work on education and culture."
