Rashtrapati is a synonym for King as per Mahabharata

Verses from Aranyakaparva where King Yuddhisthira is addressed as Rashtrapati. This is very interesting because the official Hindi name for the title of President of India is also Rashtrapati. So technically we are not an Arajaka nation. 

And given that we are conferring the title of King to our President I believe we should take that a bit more seriously and grant them certain duties of a king as well like the authority to perform Rajasuya, Digvijaya and Ashwamedha.
