Sad demise of Prof. Pratap Bandyopadhyay

Dear all,

We are extremely saddened to inform that Dr. Pratap Bandyopadhyay, former Professor of Sanskrit, University of Burdwan, West Bengal, passed away on 25th July 2025 at the age of 86.  He was a highly distinguished scholar, teacher, researcher of international repute in the field of Sanskrit literature & poetics and Indology. Prof. Bandyopadhyay was an alumnus of the University of Toronto. He was an ideal teacher having great personality and human qualities. He was also engaged in the work of critically editing the Vishnudharmottara Purana at The Asiatic Society for a long period. Its first volume is ready for publication.
We pay our profound regards to the fond memories of him and express heartfelt condolences to the bereaved members of the family. May the departed soul attain bliss and peace for ever! divyaan lokaan sa gacchatu.
