Centinary of Sri Jagannadha Raju
(An early disciple of Pujya Guruji Dr. Vedavyas)

Sri  Jagannadha Raju was born on 6th August 1915 in a small village named Kovvada 5km away from the town Bhimavaram in West Godavari District Andhra Pradesh. Right from his early childhood he grew up in an environment of great spiritual values. Such environment inspired Dharmic values in him. He came from a farmer’s family, did his schooling in ULCM school in Bhimavaram.
He took up job of running a Typing institute. He moved closer to the early cinema when the movies and the talkies were made gradually by 1940s. As a Philanthropist and a charitable person he endeared himself close to a good number of film personalities and even scholarly persons. He turned into an exhibitor and established his own theater in Amalapuram in East Godavari District. By then he married and had 9 childern, six sons and three daughters. He practiced Yoga in the early years of his life and continued it even after his marriage. During 1960-61 he came in touch with pujya guruji Sri Dr.Vedavyas I.A.S.  He was in constant touch with his guru when Dr. Vedavyas was posted as sub-collector of temple town of Bhadrachalam. His spiritual association with guruji intensified and grew into a strong bond in life. He had the good luck of having a continuous, an inseparable sadhana period of seven years with guruji during which period he became a totally different person: different from what he was in his earlier days. The word which one often heard from his mouth was ‘Dharma’.
It is during this period he bought 5 acres of land in Suraram and donaed it to USCEFI, the Trust formed by the Guruji during November 1968 in Chennai. The Society grew up gradually to several families, spread all over the country. Suraram itself grew into a temple complex with Shiridi Sai Baba temple and a Kalyana Mandapam with beautiful décor. It attracts today a few thousand devotees on Thursdays and weekends.
Sri  Jagannadha Raju garu the elderly disciple of Sri guruji (nearly 20 years senior in age to Guruji) has been the earliest spiritual student who had drawn several hundreds of young  disciples to his guruji Dr. Vedavyas. Always smiling and cheerful with an unassuming composure, he was an inspiration to the younger disciple in very simple ways narrating the secrets of spiritual training that one could receive from the Guruji.  Even today several hundred disciples of Guruji remember him fondly with affection, respect and inspiration. On this occasion of  Guruji’s 81st birthday, on 13th August 2015, it is memorable and cheerful with gratitude to recall the sweet memories of Sri  Jagannadha Raju.

He had childlike smiles and humility. He has been endearingly remembered by all the five children of Sri Guruji for they have seen him in their childhood at right age as the embodiment of humility, affection and spiritual lusture. Respected Amma garu, ( Smt. E. Rani Samyuktha )  sees Sri  Jagannadha Raju as her own child dearest to the heart among the few thousand disciples of Guruji.
