XXXiX [Prabhasa patna- Somnath – Gujarat]

Identification of Prabhasa of MBh with present day Somanath is patently wrong. Textual descriptions in MBh, Skaanda PuraNa (Prabhaasa maahaatmya)
point in the direction of present day PaaTaN (पाटण् )

Reminds me of my visit, more than four decades ago, to both Patan (પાટણ ) and Prabhas Patan (પ્રભાસ પાટણ ) where the Somnath temple is.  Both are separated by approximately 460 km.   Patan always reminds me of the folk song પાટણથી પટોળા મોંઘા લાવજો (Pāṭa thī paoḷā moghā lāvajo – "Please bring for me costly (high quality) paoḷā from Pāṭaṇ").  Patan is famous for Patola (પટોળા) which is a type of silk cloth particularly used for wedding sarees.
