कपोलकल्पना इति पदं हिन्दीभाषायां बहुशः श्रुतं मया । केषुचित् संस्कृतग्रन्थेषु अपि श्रुतम् । यथा -

नेयमस्माकं कपोलकल्पना प्रस्थानभेदे मधुसूदनसरस्वतिपादैरपि अयमेवार्थः ...

हिन्दीभाषायाम् कपोलकल्पनायाः अर्थो वर्तते निराधारकल्पना इति । संस्कृते अपि तस्य अयमेवार्थः प्रतिभाति । तथापि प्रष्टुम् इच्छामि यत् कथं कपोलकल्पनायाः अर्थः निराधारकल्पना इति संगच्छते ? पुनः कः अर्थः कपोलशब्दस्य अत्र ?

Full expression is svakapolakalpanaa. 

It is used in the sense of " speaker's / writer's own creation and not ...... " 

This " and not.......... " 

may be

1. and not authentic

2. and not as per the norms and conventions or the methodology of the shaastra in which the discussion is taking place

3. and not a correct representation of the other side in the debate 

4. and not as per the pramaaNa i.e.  valid/accepted source of knowledge as per the tradition in which the discussion is taking place

Can the discussed word < kapola - likhitam  > 

     be a distortion form of

             the Plausible correct SAMSKRUTH WORD :  <  (sva)- kapaala - likhitam > = self-imagined, self- interpreted, slef constructed without base.

                     where < kapaala> is ‘ Fate / Foreface-front’- as  the usage goes < kapaala- patta likhitam>.?

This seems to match the ‘meaning in which the word is used.

The word kapolkalpna seems to have been used as a technical term for phantasy, a literary device; the same word is used in Gujarati for the same term.
