It was truly a memorable event of poetry reading (kavi sammelan) on Sunday, June 28, 2026 with a focus on the theme of "independence" organized and led by Professor Bijoy-ji Misra where poets from different parts of the world recited and discussed their contributions. The event began with the auspicious chanting of verses from the 15th chapter of the Bhagavad Gita pertaining to freedom. It reminded me of the 'Ode to freedom' composed by Veer Savarkar and sung by Lata Mangeshkar--https://youtu.be/xQrElx8-idM?si=E1c5y0SZKQ4th9iI

Thank you Professor Tilak for attending.
The idea was to create a forum of expression for human struggle and discovery of independence.
We started with the Gita, proceeded to Greek society, formed islamic Jordan, appeared Rani Lakshmibai
of Jhansi, and Rani Chenamma of Ketur, continued to Spanish struggles and that of Afghan women,
then to a theme of sacrifice, martyrdom of a Punjabi youth Kartar Singh, agitation of Kaji Najrul and the
vow of independence composed by my own father in Odia. The native american poet was overwhelmed
with sympathy and presented her emotional chant "be in the center".
Here are a few pictures.  I will post the video.
Best regards,
Bijoy Misra
