Hare Krishna.

Adaraniya vidvaj-janas,

I came across these two proverbs translated in to English, from the book Hindu At Home, Ch.15:

There is a Sanskrit saying current which ironically expresses this: “Namaskaram (obeisance) to gold, which creates enmity between mother and son;” and a Telugu proverb says: “Even though the brother-in-law has to go to prison, the elder sister must have her anklets.”

Can original text of these be had.

Thank you.

Prāṇam Prabhuji,

The following is the Telugu proverb:

అల్లుడు జైలుకెళ్లినా, అక్క పాదబంధాలు తప్పకుండాలి
(Alluḍu jailukellinaa, akka pādabandhālu tappakuṇḍāli)

Translation:
"Even if the son-in-law goes to prison, the elder sister must have her anklets."

The following is the Sanskrit verse from Mahā Subhāṣita Saṅgraha (3407):

अविश्वासविधानाय महापातकहेतवे।
पितापुत्रविरोधाय हिरण्याय नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Aviśvāsavidhānāya mahāpātakahetave
pitāputravirodhāya hiraṇyāya namo'stu te

Translation:
"Salutations to you, O Hiranya (the Golden One), who is the cause of distrust, the origin of great sins, and the source of opposition between father and son."

Hare Krishna.

Dear Yasoda Jivan,

Thank you for this service. I have noted the references down. The Sanskrit subhasita is very nice. It has a very good humorous bhava.

Perhaps it has an indirect bearing on Hiranyakasipu : पितापुत्रविरेधाय
