A prayer to Lord Aiyappa of the Śabarī Hills

Purport:  Śabarīśa (Lord Aiyappa) made short work of the mighty Mahiṣī with his fast moving sharp shafts. Let him grant us strength to snatch Victory away from those bereft of Viveka.

Purport: Lord Aiyyappa, tamed a very cruel Tigress and rode on it back home (to give his step-mother the milk to overcome her fake headache). Let him grant us strength to snatch Victory away from those bereft of Viveka.

Purport: The snakes are mortally afraid of Garua. The redoubtable Garua serves the feet of the consort of Lakmi  with devotion. Such Lord (in the form of Mohinī) gave birth to Lord Aiyappa who is beneficial to ardent devotees. Let him grant us strength to snatch Victory away from those bereft of Viveka.

Purport: The Bull is powerful and it is best among the animals. Lord Śiva, himself mighty, made the bull his Vehicle. Lord Aiyyappa emerged from such Lord Śiva. Let him grant us strength to snatch Victory away from those bereft of Viveka.

Purport: Small Children, Youngsters and Old people have taken up vows, having offered the flower of their heart at the feet of Lord Aiyyappa. Such devotees are now being harassed by people bereft of compassion.

We worship Lord Maikaṇṭha to bring about a change in these people. Let him grant us strength to snatch Victory away from those bereft of Viveka.

A devotee who chants this hymn on lord Dharmaśāstā will attain strength and protection and will always be successful.

Excellent Sri Jayaraman-ji.

Totakam is a highly rhythmic meter. It has a great scope for becoming popular.

Swamiye S'araNam Ayyappa.

There is a typo in the fifth set of verses - Line two - it should be - दमयन्त्यधुना and not दमयन्तधुना. Error regretted.
