yad bhAvam tad bhavati - Can some one tell me the origin of this quote? Thanks.

Namaste,

I have heard it with some variation - यद् भावयति तद् भवति.

The following verse from Yogavasishtha Nirvanaprakaran Uttarardha also contains the same idea.

ना यथा यतते नित्यं यद्भावयति यन्मयः ।
यादृगिच्छेच्च भवितुं तादृग्भवति नान्यथा ।।  6.2.157.31

The purport / principle of this is stated by Shankara in the Bhashyas by citing a shruti passage  in the Brahmasutra bhashya 1.1. Anandamayadhikarana introduction:     एक एव तु परमात्मेश्वरस्तैस्तैर्गुणविशेषैर्विशिष्ट उपास्यो यद्यपि भवति, तथापि यथागुणोपासनमेव फलानि भिद्यन्ते ; ‘तं यथा यथोपासते तदेव भवति’ इति श्रुतेः, ‘यथाक्रतुरस्मिँल्लोके पुरुषो भवति, तथेतः प्रेत्य भवति’ (छा. उ. ३ । १४ । १) इति च । स्मृतेश्च — ‘यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेबरम् । तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावितः’ (भ. गी. ८ । ६) इति । 

In several other places too he cites this passage:   ‘तं यथा यथोपासते तदेव भवति’    and the ref is given as Shatapatha Brahmana 10.5.2.20. The Bh.Gita too has this idea in 8.6:

यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेबरम् । 
तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावितः ॥ ६ ॥

यं यं वापि यं यं भावं देवताविशेषं स्मरन् चिन्तयन् त्यजति परित्यजति अन्ते अन्तकाले प्राणवियोगकाले कलेबरं शरीरं तं तमेव स्मृतं भावमेव एति नान्यं कौन्तेय, सदा सर्वदा तद्भावभावितः तस्मिन्भावः तद्भावः  भावितः स्मर्यमाणतया अभ्यस्तः येन सः तद्भावभावितः सन् ॥ ६ ॥
Maybe if a search is initiated with the word 'yadbhAvam' in a good Vedic/Upanishadic Concordance, there could be some result.
