An absolute delight and an honour to have had the opportunity to spend time with Prof. R. N. Iyengar over the last few days.

Beyond the immediate impact of his original discovery and scholarship on both Indian and global chronologies — which is itself staggering when one comes to think of it — his book Mahāsalilam is, in my humble opinion, one model for what the future (technical) output of any Indology enterprise that aspires to produce scholarship of enduring value should look like: work that lasts far beyond events.

Thank you, Prof. Iyengar, for your truly historic contribution. At 83, your energy, wit, and lucidity — along with your mastery of sources — are an inspiration! 🙏

Dear Megh, I am humbled by your kind words.

It was a pleasure for me to have participated in the "Book Discussion" on  Mahāsalilam that belongs to all of us.
Somehow, I had the good fortune to have come across the manuscripts. You did an excellent job in offering your own discussion points and equally so in bringing on to the stage Prof.MD Srinivas for a
scholarly Q&A. Even though Prof. Sriram could not be in person, his written comments read by you and shared with me, are keeping me occupied. The planetary models of VGJ, as developments over the Mahāsalilam by the School of Vrddha-Garga are yet to be published. The learned audience at the CPRI Inst. of Indology was clearly interested in the subject. The questions were all searching and indicated a welcome effort to compare and contrast the present day Jyotisha (astrology) with the most ancient observations and related concepts. Let me thank Dr. Nandita Krishna for the invitation and you - for convincing me to travel to Chennai, literally taking care of me platform to platform.

🙏

The pleasure was all mine, and it truly was a privilege to have this opportunity to learn.

I can’t recall when I last saw anyone hand-write six pages — that too with a fountain pen — as Prof. M. S. Sriram had done, and then email them.

Prof. M. D. Srinivas very kindly agreed to be part of, and elevate, the proceedings.

Dr Nanditha Krishna must indeed be thanked for being a very gracious host despite a personal emergency.

An audience that arrived before time, stayed till the end, and purchased all copies that were for sale, sent across by folks at CSU, courtesy of Hon’ble VC Prof. Shrinivas ji.

Best,
Megh
