Dear Colleagues,
Could someone kindly inform me of the exact words used by Durgācārya on the following Nirukta citation?
Nirukta 3.4
Unfortunately Durgacārya’s commentary on the third chapter is missing from my collection. Hence this request for help. Durgācārya must have said something on the source of Yāska’s citation. That is my main query.
With thanks in advance
Best wishes for all
DBhattacharya

Dear Dr. Bhattacharya,

Das Gupta in his Yoga Philosophy questions why commentators of the grammatical school like Bhartrhari and others did not mention or refer to the identity of the two Patanjalis. Can any ‘vyaakarana’ please enlighten me on this. Is it true. If my memory serves me right  isn’t there some reference to the YS in Nagojibhatta’s  commentary as well as in the Vakyapadiya first chapter vrtti.  It can bear on the date of the YS Patanjali

Dear Dr. Singh,
My sincere thanks for the quotation. I tried to transliterate into Devnagari with partial success. Kindly oblige by taking the trouble of  verifying the transliteration given below
I underlined the places which seemed doubtful to me.
My query was about whether Durgaacaarya mentioned the Saakhaa of the Veda or not. In any case it is certain that he understood it as an aatharvana verse. The verse occurs in this form in the Paippalaada-Samhitaa but not in the Vulgate that is the Saunakiiya-Samhitaa currently known by the name of 'Atharvaveda'
I shall remain grateful if a scanned image of the page could be made available.
I thank you again
Best wishes and regards
Sincerely

Dear Dr. Bhattacharya,
You have very correctly transliterted the text, barring a few errors, may be on my part. I therefor represent your Nagari version with correction with Roman rendering of Bold words   rogiNyA,   'diirghAbhAva ArSa.h':  'tiSThanti',   'upayamananiSedha'. I checked erreta to see if it is upanayana but there is no reference of the page.
I think the next is authentic now.

Dear Prof. Bhattacharya,
The  relevant extract of Durga's comm., ed. H.M. Bhadkamkar (Poona: BORI, 1985) is thus with some variants:

Best regards,
