Our college, the Madras Sanskrit College is seeking to hire a head of Indic/ Sanskrit research. The following is a brief outline of the position.
The Madras Sanskrit College is seeking a Head of Indic Research to bridge the gap between ancient Indian wisdom and modern innovation. This visionary leader will oversee a national manuscript conservation program, managing the acquisition, preservation, and high-fidelity digitization of rare texts. Beyond archival work, the role involves establishing multi-disciplinary research verticals in Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)—specifically Ayurveda, Ganitam, and Dharmasastra—and translating this research into accessible curricula for schools and colleges to engage the next generation.
A primary focus of this position is leading a pioneering AI-driven initiative to develop a Large Language Model (LLM) for Sanskrit and creating EdTech applications for a global audience. The ideal candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Sanskrit and possess at least ten years of senior academic leadership experience. They should demonstrate scholarly command of Sanskrit and English, a proven track record in securing research grants, and a clear vision for integrating Artificial Intelligence with the humanities to preserve and propagate Indic heritage.
