भारत की अंग्रेज़ी उपनिवेशवाद से स्वतंत्रता कई मायनों में एक खट्टा-मीठा अनुभव है। जहाँ सदियों की ग़ुलामी - इस्लामी और अंग्रेज़ी - की ज़ंजीरों को तोड़कर स्वराज स्थापित करने का उल्लास था, वहीं भारत की देवभूमि के खंडित होने का अवसाद भी। विभाजन की विभीषिका में कइयों के घर-द्वार उजड़े, तो कइयों के मीत और कुटुम्ब छूटे। लाखों की जान गई सो अलग। जो खुश थे उनमें से कइयों को तो यह भ्रम भी हो चला कि भारत जैसे सनातन राष्ट्र का जन्म १५ अगस्त १९४७ को ही हुआ।
ख़ैर, आज जब हम भारत गणराज्य की स्वतंत्रता का अमृत महोत्सव मना रहे हैं तो इन सब बातों पर अपनी दृष्टि डालना और मनन करना लाज़मी है। इसी उद्देश्य को धायन में रख हम आपके समक्ष एक कवि गोष्ठी ले कर आए हैं। इस सम्बंध में यह हमारा प्रथम प्रयास है। आशा है हम आपकी अपेक्षाओं पर खरे उतर पाएँगे।
As India celebrates its 75th year of independence from British colonial rule, Independence Day is a bitter-sweet experience for many Indians.
There was a sense of relief and jubilation as Jawaharlal Nehru lowered the Union Jack for the last time and raised the Indian Tiranga (the tricolor, the Indian flag) on 15 August 1947. But there was also a sense of loss. The sacred land, the Deva Bhoomi and the Punya Bhumi, of the indigenous Indians - the progenies of Bharat Mata - were dismembered.
The horror and trauma of Partition still haunt many Indians. Tens of millions lost their family, friends, homes, lives, and livelihood. As Khushwant Singh would write: “The only person who seemed real was Mahatma Gandhi who had refused to participate in the festivities and was going about on foot from village to village exhorting people to stop killing neighbors.”
The Kavi Goshthi is our humble attempt toward bringing a multigenerational perspective on Independence Day. The eclectic group of poets includes Padma Shri Prof. Subhash Kak, Prof. Rajeshwari Pandharipande, Dr. Manish Shrivastava, Dr. Mamta Tripathi, Shri Shiv Kumar Nigam, Shri Saket Suryesh, Shri Satish Kumar, Shri Anand Kumar, and Shri Kushagra Aniket.
