New Publication — Śrī Harisūri's Bhakti-rasāyanam (Vol 1) with the Hindi Explanation named 'Śruti-pātrī'

The only available versified commentary in Sanskrit on the tenth skandha (canto) of Śrīmad-bhāgavatam is named Bhakti-rasāyanam. This commentary in Sanskrit verse format was composed in the 19th century by a vastly learned ācārya from Nāsik, a Kaśyapa-gotra brāhmaṇa, a parama-bhāgavata named Śrī Harisūri (Haribābā Śāstrī Paḍhegāonkar).

The commentator says that he composed this commentary after he got a darśana of Śrī Krishna and a direct order to write this commentary. He was also told by Śrī Krishna that various secrets of the līlās in Vrindavan will be revealed within his heart. The commentator has expressed all these secrets within the commentary.

The commentary has a total of 49 chapters and 4617 verses. The chapter numbers correspond to the first 49 chapters of the tenth skandha (canto) of the Śrīmad-bhāgavatam.

This commentary is often very difficult to decode and the hidden meanings are not easily visible to the readers. Therefore many connoisseurs of the Bhāgavatam were eager to see this commentary translated into a more accessible language.

It is a great pleasure to announce that the first volume of Bhakti-rasāyanam (consisting of chapters 01 - 07) with a Hindi explanation named "Śruti-pātrī" is now available for the pleasure of the Kṛṣṇa-bhaktas as well as all the vidvāns.

This Hindi translation has been done by Hari Pārṣada Dāsa, on the order of his revered guru. The original author Śrī Harisūri has named his literature 'rasāyanam', and this term refers to an Ayurvedic tonic. This Bhakti-rasāyanam however, is supposed to be drunk from the ears, not the mouth. In order to drink a tonic, a small vessel is needed. Therefore, the Hindi explanation has been named Śruti-pātrī — a small vessel (pātrī) for the ears (Śruti). This edition of the Bhakti-rasāyanam includes reviews by various devotees and vidvāns staying in Śrī Vṛndāvana.

The details of the publication are as follows:

I bow my head to that revered devotee poet named Śrī Hari (Harisūri), whose Bhakti-rasāyanam (tonic of bhakti) causes the disease of the heart to be fully pacified. It also causes nourishment of spotless loving bhakti and increases one's appetite to hear the narrations of Lord Acyuta. — (Hari Pārṣada Dāsa)

Sir,

Hearty congratulations on this achievement.

I have studied the incomplete manuscript of this work in the Nagpur University Library in early 1980s.

It is very nice that you have made it available to scholars not knowing Marathi and allowed them to relish its taste.

May Lord Krishna enable and bless you to complete this magnificent and monumental work for the benefit of the devotees.

Thanks and best wishes.
