It is very unlikely that such a recording ever happened, extremly unlikely that Edison was involved, and absolutely untrue that the first recording on a gramophone/phonograph was this. Perhaps you have been taken in by a hoax that seems to be floating around on the internet making such wild claims; please check your sources.

Namaste. Absolutely. Edison's first recording was the nursery rhyme "mary had a little lamb". Edison struggled to record human voice and play it back. When he succeeded, he said whatever he could remember. His purpose, as a scientist, was the reproduction of human voice, or whatever sound  through a mechanical device  and not what was so reproduced. That Max Mueller, a German, was in the US keeping him company so as to record Agni meede... beats reason apart from being historically incorrect.

I had seen this rumour long ago in blogs discussed. This was presented in our group also some in 2012  for discussion:

and was concluded as Sunday humours by Mr.Ajith Gargeshvari. The same had appeared in 2010 also:

originally raised by another member:

One can go through the above topics of this group also.

Here is the basis for the story:

Life and Letters of Friedrich Max Muller Edited by His Wife Georgina Adelaide - 2 Vols.
F. Max Muller - 01-Nov-2005 - 1200 pages; page No.50 on Google Books:

Thanks for the provider of the link to this book and the earlier member to the blog.

Also, Edison first invented the recording cylinder. The Gramaphone Disc was developed in 1920 by which time Max Mueller was dead.

Dear Dr.Bhat,

Thank you for providing the reference to the book by Georgina Adelaide, the wife of Max Muller.

I remembered reading  it somewhere and hence  posted the reference to the Google blog.

Dear All Learned Scholars and Guruvars
Pranaam
First of all thanks to Sh. H.N Bhat Ji who had given a valid proof that Agnimeede was not the 1st gramophone recording and hence following link is most useful ie reference to the book by Georgina Adelaide, the wife of Max Muller:
http://books.google.co.in/books?id=-w5d5qucbaQC&lpg=PP1&ots=mpQZBYxEAq&dq=Life%20and%20Letters%20of%20Fred%20Max%20Muller-2%20Vols.%20By%20Max%20Muller%2C%20Friedrich&pg=PA50#v=onepage&q&f=false

This link and other details given by Scholars conclude following points:
1. Edison 1st recording was his own voice and that is a nursery rhyme "marry had a little lamb".
2.Max Mullar did spoke Agnimeede in London but it may be 1st demo in London or some other time demo, which is not clear. But this is true that he used gramophone and recite Agnimeede but as its not 1st recording therefore got no special meaning.
3. There is no role of HMV as HMV had recorded voice of one human and that voice was used to be heard by his dog( when that man ie master died) and hence company name called as "His Master Voice" -HMV.

So, in short,  this story of Agnimeede is 1st gramophone recording is just a hoax.
Thanks to all and special thanks to our Guruji Sh. H.N Bhat Ji.

I think we can end up this discussion.
