Dear Learned Scholars and Guruvars
Pranaam

I am trying to find out different sources of word "Shami/शमी" tree.
Somewhere they have mentioned that Ram did puja of Shami/शमी tree and other place it was mentioned that Pandavas had kept there weapon under the custody of Shami/शमी tree.
It was also mentioned in different blogs that Shami/शमी word have been used in vedas etc even they told that first time, Pururva had used Shami for ignition but I am unable to find all these sources.
So I request you all that if you can tell me the exact source, along with the shloka or mantra/richa and its translation then I will be very much thankful.

Dear Guruvars

Pranaam

Thanks for the help still I need following details:
1. Shlok/ extract from valmiki ramayana where Ram did Shami puja along with translation.
2. Shlokas where Pandavas had used Shami Tree for keeping their weapons along with translation.
3. The mantras/richas told by you, i need translations also.
4. Mantra where Pururva had used Shami wood for ignition along with translation.

If any other detail you can give with proper translation then it will helpful for me.

5. I have heard that their is a correlation between shami and Shani. Is their any classical texts/mantras/shlokas from Puraan etc. for the support?

I am thankful for your support.

I doubt if this is in the Vālmīkīya Rāmāyaṇa, it may be in some other version. Can you confirm your source?

2. Shlokas where Pandavas had used Shami Tree for keeping their weapons along with translation.

Refer the Astrasaṁsthāpana chapter of the Virāṭaparva (fourth Parva) of Mahābahratam.

It is the fourth chapter in the Virāṭaparva of the North Indian edition. You can find the original verses about hiding the weapons in the tree and Hindi commentary published by Gita Press here -
https://archive.org/stream/mahabharata02ramauoft#page/995/mode/1up

In the South Indian (Kumbakonam) edition, this is chapter number seven in the Virāṭaparva. You can read the verses here -
http://sanskritdocuments.org/mirrors/mahabharata/mbhK/unic/mbhK04_sa.html
http://sanskritdocuments.org/mirrors/mahabharata/mbhK/mahabharata-k-04-sa.html
In Kisari Mohan Ganguly's translation, this is the fifth chapter in the Virāṭaparva. You can read the English translation here -
http://sacred-texts.com/hin/m04/m04005.htm

3. The mantras/richas told by you, i need translations also.

As the scholars have already provided verses with the numbers, please look up any of the available translations you have access to.

4. Mantra where Pururva had used Shami wood for ignition along with translation.

Some sources trace this narrative to the Ṛgveda X-95, but I did not find any reference to the tree's name in the hymn X-95. The narrative is present in the Harivaṁśa (see verse 1-26-44 onwards)

Dear Guruvars
Pranaam

I heartily thanks to Nityanand Ji and Dipak Ji for their valuable support.
Sh. Nityanand Ji, I have read following shloka on Shami:
शमी शमयते पापम् शमी शत्रुविनाशिनी ।
अर्जुनस्य धनुर्धारी रामस्य प्रियदर्शिनी ॥

This shloka had given me some idea that might be their is some relation between Ram and Shami tree. Might be its not true but if you can give some guidance then it will be helpful.

The verse is found on the net on many web pages:

शमी शमयते पापम् शमी शत्रुविनाशिनी ।
अर्जुनस्य धनुर्धारी रामस्य प्रियदर्शिनी ॥
करिष्यमाणयात्राया यथाकालम् सुखम् मया ।
तत्र निर्विघ्नकर्त्री त्वं भव श्रीरामपूजिता |

Emphasising on the relation with Rama and Arjuna both. The relation with Arjuna is clear from the Mahabharata context given by Mr.Nityananda. Now the question is specific. The relationship and mention that  श्रीरामपूजिता| and its source. May not be in original Ramayana of Valmiki, but some other versopm/

The second half of the first verse has the following variant:

शमी शमयते पापं शमी लोहितकण्टका ।
धारिण्यर्जुनबाणानां रामस्य प्रियदर्शिनी ॥
करिष्यमाणयात्रायां यथाकालं सुखं मया ।
तत्र निर्विघ्नकर्त्री त्वं भव श्रीरामपूजिते ॥

which is grammatically correct reading. Probably this is not from Ramayana verse.

I could not find the information  in the Index of Names and Subjects in ValmikiRamayana. Not it is found on the online versions availble. These Verses are quoted in the pages with Vijayadashami, related with Rama's Vijayayaatraa, according to the web sources.

Ashish wanted to find the soruce for this information that Shami was worshiped by Srirama on his Vijayayatra as the second verse above seems to convey the idea.

Saadara PraNaama,

Is there connection between the festival of Vijaya Dashami and Shami tree. I have seen people performing circumbulations around Shami tree in my home town. Thanks. N.R.Joshi

Dear Guruvars
Pranaam

I am really thankful to my Guruji H.N Bhat Ji who had put forward a correct query. Now I wish to add more in that query.
Its being told that before conquering Lanka, Ram did Puja of Shami in south India. Some people now worship Shami on vijaydashmi ie the day day when Ram had killed Ravana. Some where it is mentioned that wood of Shami tree being used in making Ram Hut(then what is the point of worshipping Shami by Ram?).
Hence many thoughts from many places.
If you all can guide me that from where I can get the correct detail and from which book? Valmiki Ramayan, Adhyatm Ramayan or in some Puraan?

Waiting for reply
