Devanagari Font Issues (Avagraha + Anusvara Combination)

  I need to add a feature to my Devanagari font. Who can help me?

Three renderings can be seen there. One of them, of course, is wrongly produced by your font. Of the first and third, which one is desired. आ॒ददा॑नोऽंशुका॒न्तम् looks like the third one on my machine.

काम्यो॒ऽ॒यं व॑र्णले॒खः। कुतो॑ लभ्येत?

Good font. How to have it?

Harfbuzz renders the sequence ऽं correctly, but Microsoft shaping engine has a restriction.

The sequences are rare in Devanagari as there are very few words starting with अं like अंस, अंश, अंशु (अंशुमान् अंशुमती अंशुमाली etc.), अंशुक,अंह, अंहतिः etc

Thanks for such a detail. The technical manual I've read. I need a person who can fix it in the font, not to tell me to do that ))

Hi Mārcis,

A suggestion/request if I may, based on my experience trying to design sa-svara mantra books that use both dEvanAgari and IAST: please enable the use of accents for IAST as well; move the udAtta  further down  and svarita further up to accommodate the dots and lines in IAST.

Attached is an example of what I mean -- no matter which font I used, font-supplied udAtta and svarita signs had legibility issues with IAST. As a result, I ended up creating separate line objects that moving them around to (approximately) the right place.

Try https://software.sil.org/charis/ it does the job.

I downloaded the Charis font and installed it on my MacBook Pro. Do they provide a special keyboard-layout to be able to access these different features?

As Charis is not specific about Vedas, so now. I was testing it two years ago, as I love the Charis font and use a similar one in all my publications. I could make an input scheme for Windows. For MacBook maybe https://www.sanskritwriter.com/ can help?

Thanks! It still looks a lot prettier than other fonts I have seen.

I will file an enhancement request on their Github page to satisfy my OCD about the accent signs not being aligned ( e.g. the one under ṛ̱ is lower down than the one under  i̱  ).

Yes and cleaner as well.

It is as should be. It's perfect now. What you want is typographically wrong.
