Continuing my Krishna Verses

O Krishna, in your Rama incarnation you had only one wife, and in protecting that one wife the great Ramayana occurred.

Wandering on the bank of Yamuna with the milkmaids, touched by their jealously, O Krishna, you became dark.

All of them, in love with you, are jealous of each other.  They cannot tolerate you dancing with another one.

One is excited seeing you, while another one is sad not seeing you.  For someone, the separation is intolerable, while someone is thrilled with you.

Some laugh and others cry on account of you.  With their minds attacheered to you, they are all tormented.

Having abandoned their own courtyards, they have come to the bank of Yamuna.  O Krishna, tell us what else should they abandon for you.

O Krishna, all the milkmaids want you to be not interested in anyone else.  How can you, the one, fulfill the love for all of them?

O Krishna, you have sixteen thousand one hundred and eight wives. When do you breath, O Lord?

Doing all the tasks for all your wives and toiling all the time, you have no rest.

Some wife of yours is angry, while another one loves you and yet is jealous. Satyabhama and Rukmini compete with each other.

Facing the joys and angers of all these many wives all the time, O Lord, how will you worry about us?

Continuing my Krishna Verses:

Just like your wives, your devotees are attached to you, but jealous of each other they constantly engage in fights.

“I alone am the best of the devotees, and there is none better than me. Only I am dear to Him, and He pleases me the most.”

O Lord, for the devotees who thus contest with each other, you offer good rewards to them all and always provide blessings.

It is known in the world and the scriptures that you have thousands of hands. Endowed with them, you alone perform all the tasks.

The life of poor souls like us is filled with exertion. But your exertion, in taking care of all, is the greatest.

O Krishna, looking at your life, I have a doubt in my mind. O Lord, should we be worrying about you?

You are the husband of Lakshmi [= mā] and you are also associated with power of illusion. I wish for Lakshmi, and not your illusion. Let one of them be away, but not the other one.

O Krishna, your power of illusion is difficult to transcend, but Lakshmi is the mother of the world. How can I abandon one and seek refuge in the other?

Sweet home of Father-in-Law

The love between a father-in-law and a son-in-law, bound with which they will not leave each other, is rare in the world.

[However], Vishnu resides with Lakshmi [= mā] on the ocean, the home of his father-in-law. Shiva too resides with Uma on the Himalaya mountain, the home of his father-in-law.

Lakshmi [= mā] does not abandon the ocean and go somewhere else.  [Similarly], Uma does not abandon the Himalaya and go somewhere else.

I am able to see more followers for Lakshmi and Uma of these verses nowadays. That saamya made me laugh more.

Play of Mā and Umā

O Vishnu, if you want Lakshmi [= mā], make your father-in-law [= ocean] happy.  O Shiva, if you want Uma, then first be devoted to your father-in-law [Himalaya].

Madhav said to Mā [= Lakshmi]

Vishnu says: “O Lakshmi [= mā], don’t abandon me and go somewhere else.  My mind is attached to you, O Lakshmi.  If you abandon me and go somewhere else, how will I remain Madhava?”

Umādhava [= Shiva] said to Umā

Shiva says: “O Uma, don’t ever abandon me and go somewhere else.  Powerless without you and all alone, what will Shiva, do?”

This depiction of the 'shakti' (feminine) power is reminiscent of the first verse of Shankaracharya's Soundarya lahari verse:

The  मे!

The Poet said: “O friend, these are just jokes. Don’t take them seriously.”

O Mā [= Lakshmi], my mind is attached to you. Don’t go away from my vicinity. The Lord of Mā, who constantly says “O Mā O Mā [मे मे], steals away my heart.”

I know the strange reason for their behavior. All the gods are terrified of the bed bugs.

Dear Sir,

A great word play by a great Vaiyakarana! Enjoying.
Verse number ।। । reminded me an old subhashitam -

Thanks, Prasad Ji,

     I had that verse on मत्कुणशङ्का in the back of my mind.  My first verse is a twist on the old verse ।.  With best wishes.

The verse cited by you, with a variation, is found in the book 'Yoga, Enlightenment and Perfection..', a publication of Sri Vidyatirtha Foundation, as a verse told by HH Sri Chandrashekhara Bharati Mahasvamin of Sringeri to his disciple, HH Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha Mahaswamin during his pre-sannyasa days, who became the successor to the Peetham:

Thanks, Shri Subrahmanian.  I had not seen this version.  By juxtaposing इमे मे it creates amazing poetic effect.  In my verse, I used इति मे मे कुर्वाणो मेशो to remind of the parallel verses with मेष:.  With best wishes,

Prof Madhav Deshpanday ji,
Humble Pranams.
The Krishna verses have been inspiring me. As Prof JSR Prasad sir mentioned, the following sloka is so nice...

And the slokas what is mentioned by Prof Prasad ji
is heard and learnt and our Gurujis use to tell that sloka to make us laugh after a tough grammar or Nyaya class. I could recall those days. Thank you sir.

Thank you, Surya Prasad Ji,

I owe this comic streak to my high school Sanskrit teacher Pt. Bhide.  Every week he used to teach us some Sanskrit verses, many of them comic or containing some tricky readings, and I still remember many of them.  While I had many different teachers in Pune, it was primarily Pt. Bhide who encouraged me to write verses in Sanskrit.  He would check them and help me improve them.  He did that for many years after I had finished my high school.  Ashok Aklujkar is also a student of the same teacher.
