राधाया विरहेण तप्तहृदयो भ्राम्यन् वने माधव:

अन्विष्यन् गिरिकन्दरे प्रियतमां पृच्छन् मृगान् शाखिन: ।

सोऽपश्यद्यमुनाजले निजमुखं तत्राप्यसौ नेत्रयो:

स्वस्यैव प्रतिबिम्बितं यदुवरो हा धिक् प्रियाया मुखम् ।।

His heart scorched by separation from Radha

Wandering in the forest

Looking for her in the hills and caves

Asking the deer and the trees

He looked at his own face

In the water of Yamuna

And reflected in his own eyes

The best of the Yadus, Krishna,

Suddenly saw the face of his beloved

कस्मान्न यासि पुरतो मम चक्षुषोस्त्वम् ।

O Krishna, worshipped by the wise, though as my life you reside in me, why don’t I see you in front of my eyes? Please come and clear the covering of darkness in my heart. I am not asking you for anything else.

O Krishna, worshipped by the wise, you stole the clothes of the girls who had come to Yamuna for bathing. How come you don’t rush today to remove the suffering from my life?

Daily wandering in the sands of Yamuna

I know not where he is

The lord of the cowherds tortures us

Hiding in the forest or amongst people

I search for him here and there

In the whole of Vrindavana and Gokula

O Friend, tell this exhausted friend

How can I see him?

Friend, where are you hiding?

Please respond, O Lord

Your friend is anxious

Why do you always hide

Causing this torment?

All I want is to see you once

तावन्नायाति दृष्टिं हरिचरणयुगं संस्थितं मत्समीपे ।

कृष्णेति द्व्यक्षरं ते श्रुतिसुखमधुरं श्रूयते नाम दिक्षु ।।

As long as the mind is encircled

With burning fires on the hills of objects

So long I don’t see the feet of the Lord

Standing next to me

When the engulfing fires calm down

With the mind bathed in your words

Of pure ambrosia

Only then do I hear your name

Pleasing to my ears

वीथ्यां वीथ्यां प्रविश्य प्रणमति सुजनान् पृच्छति प्रश्नमेकम् ।।

कश्चित् किं दृष्टवान् मे सुतमिह लभते नोत्तरं यावदेषा

कृष्णोऽहं ते समीपे तव हृदि सततं पश्य मामित्युवाच ।।

Searching for her son

The mother wandered

In thick forests and Gokula

Entering lane after lane

She offered salutations to good folks

And asked only one question

“Did anyone see my son here?”

She did not receive any answer

Then, Krishna, her son responds:

“O mother, I am always with you

Just look into your own heart!”

साऱ्या गोकुळी शोधिते

गेला कुठे माझा कान्हा

रस्तोरस्ती घरो घरी

प्रश्न विचारी यशोदा

कुणी पाहिला का कुठे

कोणी उत्तर ना देई

कृष्ण म्हणे मला तुझ्या

Radhika cried

In separation from her beloved

Couldn’t find him hidden

In the woods or in Gokula

“O Love of my Life,

If you have even the slightest love for me

Come now”

As soon as she said this

Krishna arrived

Touching the feet

Of his beloved

शोधताना मुकुंदाला

राधा विरहाने व्याकुळ

आर्ततेने तिचे झाले

दोन्ही नयन सजळ

कुठे कुठे तो दिसे ना

कुठे लपला तो कान्हा

नाही दिसला वनात

Searching for Krishna in Vraja

Children are running all over

Some say, “Don’t hide”

Others say, “Show yourself”

“He is hiding in this bower,” one said

“No, he is not there,” said another

To this day, O Krishna,

They are still searching for you

All the time!

बाल धाविती गोकुळी

नको लपू रे मुकुंदा

येई आमुच्या समोरी

लपलासे या कुंजात

तेथे नाही म्हणे कोणी

If Radhika loves Krishna

So do I love him

But he loves her

And does not even look at me

“Alas, O you cheat!

Why do you break my heart?

Tell me what have I done wrong?”

After this emotional outburst

Krishna quickly touched

The feet of the milkmaid

राधिकेचा प्रिय कान्हा

तसा मलाही तो प्रिय

पण तीच त्या आवडे

पाहीना तो मजकडे

का करिसी प्रेमभंग

अपराध माझा काय

असे म्हणता गोपीने

कृष्ण धरी तिचे पाय

When Duḥśāsana pulled my garment

Other than Krishna

Who is compassionate enough

To save me from disgrace?”

Begged by Draupadī in these words

Krishna rushed speedily

And saved her from disgrace

माझ्या पाचही पतींनी

मला सभेत टाकिले

दु:शासने तेथे जेव्हा

माझे वस्त्रचि खेचिले

पती राहिले पाहात

कोण माझी राखे लाज

धाव गोविंदा सत्वरी

द्रौपदी ती धावा करी

बहिणीला राखायाला
