Namaste,

The telugu community doesn't need the introduction of a great rAma-bhakta Brahmasri Vavilakolanu Subbarao Garu (lovingly called as vaasudaasu garu).  He is also called as 'Andhra Valimiki' as he used to be in communion with his ishta devata bhagavan ramachandra and to his credit is the translation of entire vAlimiki rAmAyaNa (7 kANDAs) into telugu poetry. Those series of telugu works are named by him as 'mandaram'.  Apart from this, he authored some minor works in telugu on dharma shastra, bhashyam on sandhyavandanam, telugu grammar, and others.

He was a great rAmOpAsaka and completed the entire 7 kandas of rAmAyaNa into telugu poetic form in a span of 4 years.  During this translation period, he used to have only a cup of milk in the morning and spend 22 hours in writing.  It was a great tapasya for him which he later narrated.

It is a delight to see that all his works are put on web and e-books are available here.  Here is the link :

Namaste.
Indeed it is a great help to all those who want to read the books of Sri Vaasu-daasu garu, especially the 'Mandaram.' Upon my brother's request, recently I started to search for this great work. With your kind help, now there is an access to His entire wealth of books.

Saashtangams to Brahmasri Nelanutala Srinivasamurthy garu and Lakshminarayana garu.

I believe, like me many other Telugu speaking members might benefit from the corpus.

Thanks a lot!

Regards

Sriram ji,

The pictures at the top in the website are apparently of Sri Subbarao. From his picture it appears that he is a vishishtadvaitin. I am under the impression that the suffix 'rao' is common only among smarthas and madhvas. Could you clarify?  Also, a the end of the page there are two pictures of two dampati-s. Are they in any way related to the revered author?

Thanks

Dear Subbuji,

Yes.  He was a vishishta advaitin.  He worked as Telugu professor in Proddutur, Kadapa district.  Suffixing 'Rao' was considered to be fashionable among educated in those days irrespective of one's philosophical ideals.

Namaste,

I am looking for the "Sandhyavandanam" book by Brahmasri Vavilakolanu Subbarao Garu. I couldn't find it to buy anywhere. Any pointers would be of great help!

Kalyan
