Respected Vidvajjanas,

Pranams.

I recently came across a stotra sung on Mookambika by the Trichur Brothers. The Youtube link is:

Each verse in the shloka ends with the line नमस्ते महालक्ष्मी कोल्हापुरेशी

As far as I know, Mookambika is associated with Kolluru where she is considered as a consort of Bhagavan Shiva. How is Mahalakshmi associated or called as Mookambika?
Kindly help me and oblige

With namaskaras

The word in the refrain seems to be Kollapura , not Kolhapur

Kollur of Mookambika is also called as Kollapura.

https://www.marvelmurugan.com/2013/02/mookambika-temple.html

"The kollur  village lies at the foot of the Western Ghats and is famous for the Mookambika temple, a Hindu pilgrim center. Kollur also called Kollapura one of the important places of pilgrimage in Karnataka State, which has a temple dedicated to Mookambika."

Devi there is widely known to be the three Devi forms Mahakali , Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati together.

Many devotees do a vow-bound seva there for Vidya related anugraha  focusing on the Maha Saraswati aspect.of the Devi form.

This ashtakam is focusing on the Mahalakshmi aspect.

Kallapura + eeshi .

Nagaraj avare

Thanks a lot for the information.

You are right that Kolluru in Kannada is from Kollapura and based on that I when i did dig up, found out that Skanda Purana gives the story of avirbhava of Mahalakshmi who later transformed to Mookambika as she killed an asura called Mooka. The place name comes from a rishi called Kola who did tapasya there and requested devi to reside.

Once again my gratitudes

soumya

Namaste 🙏

I recall reading about this very doubt in the Kolhāpura Kṣetra Māhātmyam.

I'm currently traveling, so I don't have access to my grantha right now. Once I'm back, I'll share the relevant pages with you — provided the doubt hasn't already been resolved by other members of the group by then.

Thanks & Regards
