Dear Prof. Pandurangi,

I've found a book that seems to contain a commentary by Pt.Shukla in Hindi, see below. Is it true that the commentary is authored by Badarinathji?
And one more question, where could I find more information about life of the pandit? Are you aware of any his (auto)biographies?

Many thanks in advance for any help!

Yours truly,
Dmiry

Yeah. This commentary is written by BadariNath Shuklaji. I have this book with me. I am not aware of any autobiography or biography of Pandit Shuklaji but as many things I know I am writing here.
Pandit Badarinath Shukla was born in the District Basti in Uttar Pradesh. I am also from Basti. In fact knowing the scholarship of Pandit Shuklaji I started to learn Nyaya.
He wrote these books. I do not know whether this list is exastive list of his all publications.
  1. A commentary of Tarkabhasha.
  2. A commentary on Vedantasar.
  3. A comentary on Vidhivad section of Tattvachintamani
  4. Shatashloki An original book on Nyaya (Unfortunately I have not seen this book yet but I have read out about this book in the article written by Prof. D. Prahladachar in a volume of "Development of Indian Philosophy eighteenth century towards" [edited by Prof. Daya Krishna]
  5. His an article नव्यन्यायविचारपद्धत्या देहात्मवादस्य सम्भावना is very famous article.
  6. His many articles which were delevered as a resource person in a workshop conducted by Prof. Radha Vallabh Tripathi in 1984 are published in the book "Nyayasatram" from HSGour University, Sagar.
  7. My one friend had been telling me that he also had written a refutation of his own article नव्यन्यायविचारपद्धत्या देहात्मवादस्य सम्भावना which is not published yet.
  8. He has written another book आरम्भवादः
If he would have written other books I am not aware of.

Acharya Badarinath Shukla's wife name was 'Murtimati'. He has written
'Arambhvada' in Sanskrit as MA student of BHU which is published from
'Motilal Banarasi Das'. He had appointed directbly in BHU by Madan
Mohan Malviya as a teacher though he was passed Shastri examination
only from BHU, At that time.
There are so many things more but time is limited so we should plan to
write a book on him.

thanks both Prof. Dixit and Mishra, other works we have known. infact I have also this book on vidhivada. infact Prof, Shukla himself wrote on his appointment in SSushama recalling Balakrishna Mishras affection towards him. he recalled Balakrishna Mishra recommending his name of appointment when he raised the next koti while being taugth Savyabhicara (if I am correct) before guru himself thinking of that koti.  He was legendary scholar. thanks. one more thing he recalled is that Mishraji providing the navaneeta for frying shashkulis when oil they (shishyas) had procured was not sufficient and  Mishraji said  बालकृष्णस्य गृहे नवनीतस्य कथमभावः
but there is no full biography.
thanks

just a reminder on another title 'माथुरी पञ्चलक्षणी' published by Rajasthan Hindi Granth Academy
in 70s. This is an excellent Hindi translation on the title and had an elaborate introduction on
the navya nyaya technical terms running beyond one hundred pages.

Shrii Badariinaatha Shukla was a great Naiyayika, Professor  at the Sampurnananda Samskrit Vishvavidyalaya, Varanasi. He later on also became the Vice-Chancellor of that Univeristy. Anyone interested in finding the details of his life and works should write to the current Vice-Chancellor Professor Kutumba Shastri of that University. Professor Shukla was a great scholar, and Professor Kutumba Shastri can easily arrange for information about him as a matter of respect, especially since Badarinatha Shukla was extraordinary scholar who taught there, and also became the Vice Chancellor.
