This is a personal note to tell
you all about an INDICA initiative close to my heart.
About ten years ago, I have
struggled with challenges that a lot of you too face. I still face them all. The
blank page, writer's block, and daily life getting in the way I know that
rollercoaster ride of turning an idea into a story. I've been there.
What if all you need is a weekend
away? A guided retreat in the misty Nilgiris, with a National award-winning
author to help you rediscover your creative muse?
Twelve writers (out of who you
may be one) get to go on this Writing Retreat this winter, grow richer in
thought, process and craft as well as make headway in their writing.
This two-day immersion would be
led by acclaimed author, Balasahitya Puraskar awardee and a passionate
historian Nandini Sengupta. A great friend with who no conversation of
mine goes without enriching insights about writing craft, history and
literature, Nandini is the ideal guide to help this cosy cohort turn that novel
idea in your mind into a polished manuscript on your laptops.
We’ll be covering everything from building a solid
foundation to the small details that bring your story to life:
- Premise
& Genre: Pinpointing the core of your story because no idea is
bad.
- Plotting
& Character: Creating a compelling plot with multi-dimensional
characters because plot is the roadmap you follow when you are lost.
- Dialogue
& Scene Building: Crafting conversations and scenes that feel real
for you want the readers to lose themselves in your world.
- Writing
Sprints: Putting theory into practice with dedicated, focused writing
time for that’s what we are gathering there. To get the wordcount moving.
The sessions are not lectures. They are designed to be hands
on stimulating exercises to immerse and grow.
