Some NRIs have donated to Indian Universities. here are a few:
Major Donors and Contributions
  • Dr. Krishna Chivukula: The US-based founder and CEO of Indo-MIM donated ₹228 crore (approximately $27 million) to IIT Madras. This stands as one of the largest single alumni contributions ever made to an Indian educational institution. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • Anant Yardi: The US-based founder of Yardi Systems donated $10 million to IIT Delhi to help establish its School of Artificial Intelligence. [1]
  • Rakesh Gangwal: The IndiGo co-founder and US-based billionaire philanthropist donated ₹100 crore to IIT Kanpur to build a school of medical sciences and technology. [1]

Best Regards,

Krishna Kashyap

The point is very simple.
1. It's heartening that there are so many philanthropists these days (too)
- verily to be pitted against the age-old adage: dātā bhavati vā na vā !

2. It's nicer to see many offering their largesse to educational causes
- whether in India/abroad, and esp. for a field like AI research.

3. It's surely better than funding a Humanities Dept. research abroad,
as most of such Dept.s work against Indian/Hindu/Sanskrit/Vedic causes directly/indirectly,
mostly directly.

4. And at a time, a crucial time, when India badly needs to excel in AI,
esp. against the strides of China/USA, and more especially against the background of
ample and competent work-force and talent right here, in our own country.
The donors being Indians, a little patriotism can make a great difference:
none would find fault with the spirit of jananī janmabhūmiśca
(even if it's not from Vālmīki-rāmāyaṇa).

5. I would still hesitate to urge for the same for India, had India been
under the continued rule of (dynasties of) sharks: timiṅgilagilagilagila-s.
Luckily we have a non-corrupt, perhaps incorruptible, PM at the helm of affairs,
who ever has the interests of the good of the country uppermost in his mind,
is relentless in his toil, and steadfast in his pursuit:
nistandrir apramattaśca (the Rāmāyaṇa) &
dhr̥tyutsāha-samanvitaḥ (the Gītā) &
anupahata-sattva-buddhi-pauruṣa-parākramaḥ (Caraka-saṁhitā).

6. And finally, if such acts of munificence are made as they have presently been
despite a cognizance of the above factors, all one would say is :
tebhyo mahadbhyo namaḥ.
